Powis Castle, owned by the National Trust, is located near Welshpool in the heart of the Welsh countryside. It was originally built as a medieval fortress around 1200, but the building as it stands today is a testament to the way in which it has been altered and remodelled from 1600 onwards. The interior is home to thousands of works of art, furnishings and ornaments collected over the course of 400 years.
"Had one night in a single on B&B basis while visiting family for a night out.
Building is a pub in an old building with the upper rooms converted to accommodation. Although the room was small it was a masterpiece of how to use space and did. Not feel cramped in any way. The room was spotless and the bed comfortable. With the property being on a main thoroughfare and a very busy pub a nice touch was the provision of earplugs.
Breakfast was served in a restaurant area at the back of the pub. Unlike most hotel breakfasts you choose from a menu and it’s cooked fresh for you and was top quality.
Staff were lovely, but a note of caution for nervous types there are no staff on site overnight, but a telephone number is provided in case of emergency.
There is no onsite parking, but a public car park is available across the road. I travelled by train and the station is 10 minutes walk.

"Good location, short walk into the centre. It has parking at the rear, although it could be a little tight if full. Only one word to describe the staff: AMAZING, so friendly and helpful. Rooms were comfortable and clean, a little on the small side, but it wasn’t an issue; the shower had good water pressure. We didn’t eat at the restaurant for an evening meal as we went into Shrewsbury, but the menu looked good and the food smelt great. Breakfast was 1st class, a large full English with fresh orange juice and a good pot of tea. "
"we were greeted very warmly and immediately had the feelling that nothing would be too much trouble. Not one single member of staff was unhelpful and, in fact, went out of their way to ensure we were happy. The receptionists were all "doing a proper job" but the main receptionist was born to do that job. She was just lovely. The food was an added bonus."
"A very attractive, old Tudor style hotel. Great atmosphere.
Absolutely charming, friendly and helpful staff.
The room was smallish but adequate. Quiet and comfortable. bathroom clean.
A good breakfast included.
Hotel parking ( £10.00 per night) was quite a way from the hotel.
