"The room had a great view, was small but comfortable, and the bathroom had been updated. Evening meal, breakfast staff were friendly and polite. The car park had limited spaces. As other guests have mentioned, the stairs to the rooms are steep and numerous"
"Old elegant hotel. Yes a bit worn in places but spotlessly clean. Food fantastic. Views and grounds are spectacular. Very dog friendly. Rooms spacious and warm Pool good. No spa. Golf right on your doorstep. Staff helpful. Annie at reception especially so. Lovely walks and close to beaches and cute towns. Lacked atmosphere in the dining room and bar areas. All in all great value for money and a restful few days. Planning to return."
"The staff was great. The price was good. A consistent problem was the shower. First, the narrow semi circular units are too small. Second, the water pressure and temperature wouldn’t stay consistent. It’s a dated property. But overall, the price, location, and staff were great."
"My twin bed room was medium sized. It had a small TV, hot water kettle, no mini fridge. But, there is a fridge in the breakfast room that you can place food in. Breakfast is included and it begins at 8:00am, 8:30am on Saturday and Sunday. Both times were too late for me. Cooked eggs, toast, cereals, fruit, coffee, tea. Towels, coffee sugar cream and tea packets for your room are shelf service . They are in the closet on the third floor. No elevator, so you have to carry your suitcase up the stairs. Check in and out was easy and fast."
"Had a 1 night stay with husband and daughter.
Hotel is very central and had a nice friendly atmosphere.
All the staff were exceptional and couldn’t do more for you.
The restaurant is definitely worth a visit as food is outstanding.
Bar area got quite roudy at one point with a stag do, so we’d shed our meal from the bar to the restaurant upstairs.
Later the bar was fine and had a nice selection of drinks.
The room was fine and was quite soundproof considering it’s on the main road.
Breakfast was included in the price and was ok. Could possibly be more continental choices but hot food was nice and poached eggs cooked to perfection. "
"What a beautiful setting and absolute gem of a building. Great staff with fabulous sense of humour. Every window has such lovely views you can’t quite believe you’ve found such a quiet spot. I won’t spoil the secret for other visitors but finding that extra little place in the woods made my visit. Such a special little extra.
The shared spaces are all large, airy and well maintained. I loved the windows, the staircase and the furniture. I appreciate the upkeep of something so old takes a great deal of money to keep in tip top condition, so new carpets must be diverging that happens over time. Our room was a bit tired, but then we didn’t pay much for our stay so I wasn’t disappointed at all. I just worry that if you did pay a lot you would want a refurbished room without scuff marks or broken lampshades. Things happen and wear and tear is normal but just those little things need maintaining to make everyone feel looked after, and aren’t too expensive to replace.
All in all we loved our stay. Stuart was a legend. He handled the burnt toast beautifully. The walks by the river and through the wood were my highlight."
"Centrally situated near to all amenities. My single room was basic but comfortable enough, spotlessly cleaned every day and quiet. Breakfast (included) was plentiful and well cooked and presented.
I recommend that you check the hot water on entry as when I checked in I wsinceas very tired after my journey and piled into bed. In the morning I found I had no hot water in sink or shower and went to reception to complain. No problem says the girl, I'll be up in 5 minutes to switch it on. Maybe the Guy who checked me in didn't think I looked like I used hot water, just saying.
The view from my window looking over the green would have been lovely had it not been for the fact that the windows to have not been cleaned since the building was built."
