Central Plaza

Central Plaza
Enjoy panoramic views over Hong Kong Island and Kowloon from this skyscraper and see the time displayed via a beacon illuminated by neon lights.

Spectacular views of the natural and manmade skyline of Hong Kong are visible from the Central Plaza skyscraper. Rising to a height of 1,227 feet (374 meters) above the streets of the Wan Chai district, it’s one of the city’s tallest buildings. Visit Central Plaza to spot major landmarks from the tower’s observation deck and study one of Hong Kong’s most impressive timepieces.

The tower has a triangular design, which allows many of the office spaces to benefit from harbor views. Its façade features more than 500,000 square feet (50,000 square meters) of glass. Making the tower stand out from other buildings at night are 1,000 neon transformers covering 60,000 square feet (6,000 square meters) of the three sides of the exterior.

Gaze up to the pinnacle of the skyscraper and a beacon made up of four spandrel neon bands that function as a clock. Each band represents 15 minutes and the colors change in sequence to represent every quarter of an hour. For example, 6.30 p.m. is represented by the two lower bands glowing in red and the two upper bands in white. Have fun trying to tell the time without looking at your own watch or smartphone.

Step inside the lobby to discover an airy space decorated with polished marble floors, artwork and palm trees. Then ride one of the high-speed elevators to the observation deck located on the 46th floor. Watch boats cruise along the waters of Kowloon Bay and Victoria Harbour. Admire the green hillsides of Victoria Peak and see emblematic city sights such as the International Commerce Centre and the International Finance Centre.

The tower stands in the Wan Chai district of Hong Kong Island. Travel here by taking the subway to Wan Chai station, which is about a 5-minute walk away. Alternatively, catch a ferry to Wan Chai Ferry Pier and then walk to the tower in 15 minutes.

Central Plaza and the observation deck are free to visit. Ask about the opening hours of the lookout for the day at the building’s lobby.
