I enjoyed my stay at Akara hotel in Bangkok. It’s conveniently located, well-designed, and the rooftop view is great. I liked the dining options and they serve free breakfast, along with free snacks at 2pm daily for hotel guests. The hotel staff was very accommodating and helpful.

It was probably one of the worst stays i ever had at a bangkok hotel. TV was spoilt, wifi was slow, walls were paper thin, bath tub was cracked. Weird alarms going off at 8am in the morning which staff doesnt seem to care. Coffee was not restocked and ice bucket unwhashed. House keeping is really a joke. Please dont be fooled by all the random 5 star ratings (esp by all the thais). There is a lot left to be desired. Blinds cant be closed tightly and sunlight was blasting right through the gaps. Stay a night, and you can see why there are so many 1 star reviews for this.

The pool was a lovely retreat and never busy, reception area was nice too but I had a number of gripes: - you’re greeted only with an instant demand for a credit card (but not Amex) so told we had to give over 1000 bat per day in cash for potential damages. Then the bell boy then shows you to your room, where he tells you the cost of everything should you damage it. Lovely! - the staff were fine when asked to help but compared to the rest of our stay around SE Asia, they weren’t proactive at all, just sat back where ever possible - the drinks in the barracuda bar are extortionate for the location (£6 per bottle of beer is more than London prices) and doesn’t open until 6pm - the photos of the room we booked showed a shower as well as a bath - don’t be fooled, there is only a bath with a shower on top and a slightly dingy shower curtain

WiFi is a lie. The property has no usable WiFi throughout the building. There is no office space or meeting room. The one room they labelled meeting room does not open at night, has no plugs, and has no WiFi. We had a blackout there for 2 hours and that was enough for the breakfast bar to give me norovirus. I wouldn't recommend Akara. There are many other hotels nearby.
