"I booked this lodge for my husband and his buddies. What a hidden gem. He said he wouldn't have changed anything about it. He enjoyed the wonderful meals , the atmosphere and the patrons
5 stars !"
"Location is good, opposite is the ski resort, which has good snow. Overall room was well maintained, public Onsen was nice too. However we came during early ski season, there is barely any restaurants opens. Hotel cafe food is a bit expensive, and not much choice (mainly western). If plan to stay may order half board instead, or tell hotel staff to reserve dinner before 10am"
"The manager (owner?) and his wife were incredibly welcoming and pleasant. They take great pride in their hotel and it shows in every aspect of our stay. "
"Excellent Ryokan. Breakfast and late night sake tasting included free. Very short walk to excellent local restaurants and train station. Very easy to access for tourists"
"Very well taken care of hotel, although an older property. Liked that we could use private bath on reserved time. Good breakfast and close to the train station"
"The hospitality (service and meals) at Shiganoyu Hotel were amazing. While we did not speak Japanese and the staff did not speak English, they used a translation tool for conversation and didn't let that be a barrier. It was so comfortable for our family of 5 - very homey and welcoming. The tea and treat upon check-in was a nice surprise and delicious. The onsen was a relaxing bonus! And the food was amazing and a wonderful experience. We had 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners and they were all...
"Excellent service, friendly and helpful english speaking staff, an amazing facility with great baths, all in an incredible location. We would recommend anyone going to Yamanouchi and Shibu onsen stay at Kokuya "
"Staff was super friendly. They took us to the ski gear rental shop and back again to return the stuff. Their English was ok, enough to explain what buses to take, recommend pistes, etc. We even received a small gift when leaving. I recommend reserving the 3 meal course."

"Staff made us very welcome and the shuttle service was excellent. The dining at the hotel was a very special experience (our first). An excellent choice."
"Fantastic!

If you want a beautiful traditional ryokan with access to the baths, clean showers and great service where the staff go extra without even asking then stay here.
As a father and two sons staying in a traditional room we had a great time. "
"This hotel was great to stay in. The room was very spacious with tatami mats and two areas to sit down and relax/work on computer including a nice couch with a table and desk with a chair. The bed was very comfortable, the restaurant was delicious, and the spa was amazing. I had a great stay here."
"Many hot springs around. Need your own transport to get around. Went off season so maybe the dining options were limited.
Good place to unwind though."
