Best ever I will always book it when I go to Mpumalanga
It was a delightful staying. I suggest that before and on the road circle, from WhiteRiver to the Hotel Protea the Winkler, must be placed indicative outdoors for those coming in their first time particularly after sundown.
Lovely hotel in beautiful location, staff very helpful and friendly, even sorted out our mobile phones to link to wifi when we couldn't. Attractive public areas, lounge/bar etc. Close to Casterbridge shopping for local curios etc.
Pity it was just one night. Would have enjoyed a week. Isolated location but fronts a good road to Kruger and Johannesburg . Hotel and grounds lovely. We had a large room with double balcony and views of the swimming pool.

Good staff, decent location to Kruger
Hotel Staff are excellent, breakfast buffet was really good.
Ants everywhere in the room, dinner buffet wasn't good. Pool and play area needs an upgrade or clean.
We were relieved and glad by the general managers and duty managers help when our car broke down before entering the hotel. Only a responsible and good hotel staff will do this for there customers.

A decent hotel with a few deferred maintenance issues with items such as carpeting.
Just stayed the nights as usual on our way into KNP. No problems what so ever.
Team at Reception and on the gate most helpful.
See you in February 2018

Game Safari in Kruger Park
Nice hotel, close to Nelspruit and White River, as well as to Kruger's Park Numbi gate. It was cold in the first night and we were surprisingly informed by hotel staff that they didn't have more blankets available; we were four people in the room with only 2 blankets, so you can imagine that first night was really freezing!

Very peaceful and quiet surroundings, hotel needs some attention. Tennis courts needs fixing, rooms require some extra care as many things were broken or not in the room. Swimming pool needs cleaning
Booked and paid for a family room - the only available rooms at the time, but got a smaller standard room, no refrigerator, just a cupboard that used to contain one, toilet didn't flush, no in room wifi.

Website is misleading - shows water slide that doesn't exist, talks about supervised children' s activities on long weekends that weren't available despite being there on a long weekend, the kids zone was depleted and more like a disaster zone... BUT - friendly service, nice grounds, food OK, room comfortable apart from lack of light in the lounge area.
I have stayed at the hotel before when it was under the Protea Banner. It now appears to be under new ownership. I was very unhappy with their rates. I paid nearly double what I paid last year for the same duration in July.
If money is immaterial, the hotel is a decent choice. If budget matters I cannot recommend this hotel again.
This hotel is a jewel! The setting is straight from a fairy tale. Beautiful mountains and trees makes the place quite tranquil. We even saw a double rainbow! The staff was super attentive and provided everything we asked for, from electrical adapter's to arrangement of a tour of Kruger National Park. All staff were helpful, friendly and had a "can do" attitude. When I inquired about a car wash, instead of directing me to town, they arranged for an off duty staff member to wash my car! How is that for service! the only drawback was the non-availability of in-room internet access. Based on the responsiveness of the management, I would not be surprised to see them add that by the next time we visit. Outstanding stay!

Protea Hotel - The Winkler
Hotel is beautiful. setting is very peaceful. perfect for relaxing.
Kids zone needs alot of work. it seemed like a run down shed. It was not very appealing to my son. the only thing he liked there was the Nintendo Wii. With a little effort, it can become a really nice place for kids.
The bathroom in the room could use an extractor as the window is too small to let in any fresh air.
other than that the hotel is beautiful. sunrise over the mountains is worth watching as you can sit by the pool and take it all in. the grounds are well maintained and very child friendly. pool is well kept.
i will definatley visit Protea The Winkler again.
