Overall the experience was positive. The location is beautiful, but we weren't there long enough to learn the bus route in andvout of town. The bachelor suite was adorable but musty as it is in the basement. If you have lung issues I wouldn't recommend. But otherwise a stellar experience.

If you like an old Victorian experience this is a place for you. Instead of a single room, you get a whole Victorian apartment in the castle. Bring your own vine and snacks and enjoy the great view from the sitting room.

What a beautiful picture perfect property and such a fun treat to stay in a castle on our visit to st Andrews! Our hosts were delightful & welcoming and we enjoyed playing with their dog too! We would definitely stay here again!!

The owners were amazing and gave us a wonderful experience with a tour of the rooms. They were so accommodating and made sure we were comfortable. It is so peaceful and quiet at night, and the beds are very comfortable. The grounds are beautiful! We highly recommend it for anyone who wants a quiet, peaceful oasis only a few miles from St. Andrews. 10 out of 10 - we will definitely come back when we visit again!

The property is absolutely perfect. The room is clean, comfortable and all amenities including wifi are available. We slept better than we do at home. The area is very safe with no other properties visible for miles. The kitchenette was perfect, romantic and well stocked. The proprietors were very friendly, welcoming and helpful to our needs. What a dream stay.

The rooms and sitting areas were spacious and wonderful. The hosts were very lovely and welcoming people. The only downside was low water pressure in the shower. Truely enjoyed our stay though and would again in a heartbeat!

Fabulous stay in a truly beautiful place. Rooms were spacious, clean and had loads if character. Contental breakfast already in your room which was great. Room had a seperate kitchen area where we had breakfast from the fridge. Bedroom had large double doors looking out to countryside and passing river. However must also say we staying in a castle full of history and character hosted by GENUINELY the nicest people we have ever stayed with.

This renovated privately-owned castle has 3 rooms available with kitchen and stocked for continental breakfast. Very spacious and enjoyable. David shared the history of this almost 200 year old estate. Finding the location was the only challenge but David directed us to the driveway that has no signage.

Exceptional setting in a castle. Very spacious and comfortable. Be sure to follow check in instructions as well as specific directions. It's a well hidden spot but well worth it.

Fantastic place to stay near St Andrews
What a grand place to stay, and I'd recommend Stravithie Castle in a heartbeat. Our only gripe was the lack of signs directing us from the road and into the property, but once we'd found the right place, parked up and made a fuss of the beautiful, resident sheepdog, owner David gave us a thoroughly friendly welcome and took us up to our room, which turned out to be an expansive suite complete with living room, a huge bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. Breakfast items were all ready in the fridge for us, and although the shower took a while to get going, it was fine. David was open and honest in admitting the WiFi wasn't great, and the TV only picked up a handful of BBC channels, but we didn't care a jot! The surroundings were just stunning, the hospitality was first rate, and the dog was a joy. Overall, an excellent experience, and we hope to stay there again one day.

Nice position and quirky
Finding it is a bit difficult, but once you do the welcome from David is very pleasant. The room however is a bit tired and in the basement. Hot water was a challenge, as was getting the heaters working. But given the shortcomings it was a pleasant place to stay

Fabulous hostess - friendly and welcoming Very peaceful and tranquil setting. Felt like a castle with all the modern amenities. Room was delightful with walk out to the garden. The only thing I would suggest is that there be a sign into the property indicating that it was a bnb as the only sign for the driveway indicated private property.

Lovely stay but missing a couple of key things.
Lovely stay at the castle. I would say that the decor needs a refresh but that’s just my opinion. It looks dated but may be playing on the castle ‘theme’. The lady that owns the place is lovely and really helpful. However the 7pm latest check in isn’t helpful when working late before arriving. However she was available to let me in when I arrived at after 8pm. One thing that would be helpful is some signage directing to the house. I managed to get lost in the woods which was slightly creepy. Not one sign and Apple Maps didn’t direct to an obvious entrance. Pretty sure this place is haunted too. Breakfast was lovely and set out in the rooms attached Kitchen like a studio. The bed was comfy but two singles pulled together rather than a double/ king as expected. TV and Wifi were available.

A warm welcome was received to this charming retreat. The room is more like an apartment with all amenities you would expect. St Andrews is a 10 minute drive away, but the appeal of this place is the tranquility it offers.

We had a great stay here in August. The grounds were beautiful and tranquil and it felt like a real country escape. Our room was next to the garden which looked out on to the river and there is a wooded area by the castle to go walking. The owner and his family were really friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to get me some special food to cater to a food allergy which was much appreciated. Our room had a private kitchen area where the breakfast was left which was handy for preparing food we'd brought as there aren't really any restaurants or shops within walking distance. The only issue we faced was getting back to St Andrews town (about 5 miles away)- the x59 bus comes every hour along the main road but (after a 45 minute delay) the first one passed us as it was full and the next bus was another hour's wait and was 30 mins late so we probably wouldn't rely on the bus next time and would get a taxi (which costs about £11).

Loved it.
This surpassed our expectations. More of a suite than a simple bedroom, the direct garden access was great and the breakfast in our own kitchen was deliciously different. A perfect location for us, a quiet retreat, with lovely local walks, but within a short drive of many tourist locations. We would go back. No doubt about it.

Overall decent stay and loved the owners dog.
Started off nicely. Place is clean and accommodating and rooms are comfortable. Very handy location for all of east Fife. Lovely views. The owners have a beautiful and friendly dog. Absolutely loved spending time with her. Very clever and playful and will become your best friend in an instant. Store bought continental breakfast was pretty standard but not unwelcome. Room cleaned each day to a good standard. Hosts were friendly and interactive throughout our stay until misunderstanding over price of possible return visit - which was duly cancelled by us. Price offered initially was then doubled. Shame as we otherwise would have returned regularly. Would have loved to have seen their lovely dog again. Best thing about our stay was the dog.

This is a Scottish Castle full of character and history. The room was great and the owners even left champagne glasses out when they saw our birthday bottle in the fridge. The owners were very friendly.

This was probably my favorite location of all during our 2 week visit to Scotland. It didn't have a fancy breakfast or reliable wi-fi, but it was in a beautiful castle set back from the road in the middle of almost nowhere (make sure to street-view the location before you go because it's not marked with a sign). The owner, David, was more than happy to suggest restaurants and things to do in the area. He even gave us the room with the best wi-fi connection, since our US-based phones were having difficulty getting any service outside of major cities. The wi-fi lost connection a little, but worked well enough during our stay to get us set up with our next day's itinerary. The room was spacious and included a small but separate kitchen, and a good continental breakfast was provided. The room even included a little table set with beautiful china for breakfast. Our favorite part, besides being in a castle, was the short walk David told us about that led to an ancient Druid holy site. This was one of the highlights of our trip, and I will recommend Stravithie Castle to any of my friends who plan to travel to the area.

A Great Find
Stravithie is about 5-miles from St. Andrews on the road to Anstruther and is only a couple of miles from Scotland's Secret Bunker tourist attraction which we visited and found truly fascinating. Stravithie Castle is not easy to find, but I called ahead and was given very good directions, so found it without too much bother. It is set back from the road along a fairly long wood-lined private avenue that gives it a rather grand appearance. The house and gardens are beautifully maintained. The owners, David and Renate were so accommodating and friendly. We felt that they treated us like old friends. Stravithie Castle is their very comfortable home, which David kindly gave us a tour of and he told us about its fascinating history. Our room was 'downstairs' in what would have been the servants' quarters in days of old. We accessed it via a hallway beautifully furnished with antiquities and books. The room itself was spotless with a bright, clean bathroom. The shower worked very well; the water was hot and the flow strong. The floors are all original wood with lovely rugs dotted about. The bed was large with a statement headboard and looked out onto the manicured grounds at the back of the house via floor to (high) ceiling French doors.
