Discover cheap things to do in Southeast Asia

In Southeast Asia, budget-conscious travellers can immerse themselves in a paradise of experiences without breaking the bank. Start your journey in the vibrant streets of Hanoi, Vietnam, where you can enjoy the rich aroma of street food for just a few pounds; don’t miss the iconic pho and fresh spring rolls that are not only delicious but also incredibly cheap. Next, head to the breathtaking temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia; exploring this UNESCO World Heritage site offers a profound glimpse into ancient history, and the entrance fee is relatively low, making it an affordable adventure. In Thailand, the bustling markets of Chiang Mai provide an exhilarating shopping experience, where you can haggle for unique handicrafts and sample local snacks at minimal cost. For a serene escape, the stunning beaches of Bali offer not just relaxation but also free activities such as hiking to hidden waterfalls and exploring lush rice terraces. Finally, consider basing yourself in the lively areas of Kuta or Seminyak in Bali, where you’ll find budget hotels that offer excellent service and convenience, allowing you to explore the local culture while enjoying comfortable amenities. With affordable dining options and easy access to numerous attractions, you can experience the essence of Southeast Asia without overspending.

10/10 Excellent
"A very clean, modern hotel. Our 13th floor bedroom had great views across the city and offered a firm, comfortable mattress and a powerful shower. Breakfast at Salt and Pepper offered an Asian inspired hot breakfast with plenty of choice, including a juice and coffee machine. The pool area was fantastic: a very large, clean pool with towels available. I also made use of the ironing facilities near the pool area. The Lavender MRT station was just a five minute walk around the corner, with most of the route under sheltered walkways, and buses departed directly opposite the hotel. Overall, a really enjoyable stay, and we wouldn’t hesitate to return."

Rambuttri Village Inn & Plaza

Rambuttri Village Inn & Plaza

8/10 Good
"The location was really good, local food outside your doorsteps! Bed was also comfy and staffs were great. The only downside is the toilet has an openlike window or vent to the hallway, which means that u would have to be extra quiet. There is also a weed shop outside which was a shock but something the hotel could not help. It just means there would be a stench at times."

Diamond Cliff Resort & Spa, Patong Beach

Diamond Cliff Resort & Spa, Patong Beach

8/10 Good
"Diamond Cliff Resort & Spa – Phuket ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (4/5) I had a beautiful stay at Diamond Cliff Resort & Spa. The ocean‑view jacuzzi suite was absolutely stunning peaceful, romantic, and one of the highlights of my holiday. The resort grounds are lovely, the views are incredible, and overall it’s a great place to relax. However, there are a few areas that need improvement. Staff communication and training could be better, especially when handling guest requests. Some parts of the room and amenities need more thorough cleaning. For example, when I boiled water to make tea, I discovered significant residue and buildup inside the kettle, which shows it hadn’t been properly cleaned. This is a hygiene concern, especially for a 5‑star property. These issues didn’t ruin my stay, but they are important for the resort to address. With better staff training and more attention to cleanliness, Diamond Cliff could easily be a perfect 5‑star experience."
