Wonderful historic town surrounded by fabulous park + river - lots of independent shops too; we'd highly recommend CSONS restaurant (better food, more authentic service + atmosphere and more friendly staff than the Michelin starred one in the town!)

Shrewsbury is a fantastic town to go out in, wether during the day for shopping or meeting up, or out on the town for a drink or 3. There are also plenty of choices for food. It has so much character and some very old buildings that are well kept.

I explored several of the older pubs as recommended online, each one unique. The museum and art gallery is worth a visit as is old prison and the castle. Everything is within walking distance, including some lovely strolls along the river.

Shrewsbury is a historic town with lots of character, but not very car-friendly, particularly with major roadworks going on at the moment, scheduled to last until Summer 2025. It has a good range of shops and pubs and feels safe.

So much history and beauty in a very compact setting, together with excellent shopping and eating facilities of all kinds. The Sabrina Walking Tour and Boat Trip were both very interesting and well done.

"A wonderful hotel right in the heart of Shrewsbury. The recommended car park is less than a minute's walk. The hotel is really tastefully themed with lovely homely touches. The breakfast and honesty bar were a highlight!"

"We loved our stay at the Ancient Gatehouse. The room was lovely and looked out over the green in front of the Wells Cathedral. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the hotel has an excellent Italian restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner before walking around the lovely town of Wells. Americans should know it is not air conditioned, but air conditioning is rare in the UK and Europe. There is a fan and lovely large windows. We will definitely return."
