Grand Hotel Swanage

10/10 Excellent

"My sister and I had a lovely short stay at this beautiful hotel. The view of the beach from the dining room was really stunning and the food was delicious - especially as we were last minute diners. The beds were comfortable and our room and bathroom had been refreshed to a high standard, so everything was clean and bright. Our breakfasts were freshly cooked and again delicious. The nearby car park was fine instead of the quite limited parking at the hotel. The staff were all welcoming, friendly and helpful, so all in all we had a great stay away and would recommend the hotel to anyone else who is thinking of booking."

"When we arrived the room wasn’t what we thought we had booked - a triple bed family room, but they were concerned and helpful and found another room which was better for us. The place was peaceful and relatively basic ditto the breakfast, and very good position. It was very hot so good to sit in the shady garden with a stunning view over the fields to Corfe Castle one way and Swanage the other."

Bankes Arms Hotel

"Excellent location; on bus route and next to railway station. Excellent breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Only negative is that we had a room at the front of the hotel and the road is extremely busy throughout the day and night. If the windows are closed you do not hear the traffic but if they are open then you have little sleep. We had to keep the windows open as we stayed during the heat wave. Perhaps the hotel could provide fans during the summer months."

"Great location for this hotel in centre of Corfe Castle with parking which is a plus as the village doesn’t have many places to park. We booked a garden room for two nights and were a little disappointed as the garden rooms are all described as spacious and within their own walled garden. The photo shown on their website does not in any way look the same as the one we had. The room we were given was very small and dark and had tiny awning windows. In the recent heat it was impossible to breathe with no air circulating due to the room overlooking a covered area and with small awning windows that hardly opened. A fan was provided but the cable was too short and there were no sockets near enough to plug the fan in front of the bed. I had paid the same as others in garden rooms but think we were short changed in size as there was only enough room to walk around the bed. We dined in the restaurant on the first night and were shown to a room (not the restaurant) and had to ask to be seated and order taken 30 minutes after our booking time! No idea why we weren’t taken to the table at time we booked. We had booked the first sitting so expected to be seated then - maybe staff should be better instructed. The food however was excellent and so was the freshly cooked breakfast. The best member of staff was the young girl on our second morning at breakfast. She looked after us and made sure we all had our breakfast ordered in good time."
