#LifeAtExpedia Breezy A-Bay on Big Island Recent Kilauea Volcano eruption has severely hit tourist traffic to the entire Big Island, despite the fact the dangerous lava flows impact less than a low single digit percent of total surface area of island. Diametrically across from the eruption site in SE corner of Big Island is the VERY SAFE Anaeho'omalu Beach, or A-Bay, near the popular Waikaloa. What I recall most distinctly is the granular 4 color sand I'd never seen before on a beach. I wish I could bring it back bags of it for landscaping :) A-Bay was a chance pit-stop I made, driving up Kohala Coast to Waipio Valley from Kona, the most well known city on Big Island's West Coast, with an international airport. A-Bay is a place of unparalleled tranquility, a perfect long crescent shape, and salt and pepper sand. Long rows of palm trees make A-Bay one of the premier places to photograph a Big Island sunset. Ideal for Kite-surfing, paddle boarding or just lounging and taking a walk on the beach, which is what I did.

The rooms and staff were great! The buildings are getting warn down and the food is very over priced. All restaurants options close very early and there are not to many of them to chose from. Makai tower has good ocean views and easy access to parking. We loved the lagoon with so many fish!
