Una alternativa muy razonable en Portó
El hotel está en una excelente ubicación La gente muy amigable. El desayuno razonable. Muy importante que tiene cochera cubierta y cerrada en el hotel. ( si llegas a Porto en auto es una gran comodidad, lo dejas cuando llegas y lo sacas cuando te vas de Porto ) Deberían mejorar la señal de Internet en el piso 4 que llega muy débil.

Overall, our stay at the Sao Gabriel Hotel was disappointing. The hotel was being decorated and we left our room the first morning to be met by a building site. For a 4 night stay, we ended up having 3 different rooms (all below standard). There were some good points:- Breakfast was adequate, location was good and staff were friendly. I would not stay here again and am currently in contact with the online booking company regarding the standards that guests should expect from a hotel rated on their website.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was continental, no Eggs. Parking for my rental car was next door, easy to roll luggage in. Our room was very small (2 star hotel), but comfortable. Though the air conditioner broke on Saturday and they couldn’t get a technician to fix it on the weekend. Luckily, the window opened and there were no bugs, so we slept well. The neighborhood is run down, but only 2 streets from the Mercado and walking street (Catarina), and Metro stop.

We stayed a total of four nights: 3 nights while going north, and one night on the way back. It is a 15 minute walk from the historic district and the central transportation hub. It is two blocks from the supermarket (Pingo Doce) and near all kinds of restaurants. There is a pedestrian-only market strip nearby, and it is probably less than a 30 minute walk to the waterfront (plaza de Ribeira). However everywhere involves a steep incline. Wear your walking shoes. (Maybe a walking stick). The people were pleasant. We elected to ride the hop-on hop-off bus (blue line) which includes free wine tasting. If you know where you want to go get the Porto Card. It will pay for itself with savings. We ate at the Cafe Santiago 3 times for the famous Francesinha sandwich. The sandwiches are sold everywhere but this is the first place I go to and they accept Visa. For under $20 the sandwich that includes fries and a beer sauce, a salad, two appetizers, and two beers that leaves two of you ready for a siesta.The hotel offers a simple breakfast: coffee, juice, ham, cheese, rolls, yogurt, fruit, pastries. Way to start your day. Carry luggage a few steps to the elevator. Free parking. You can, but I don't think you can do much better than this place. Friendly.

The location was very central making the property overall value for money. The reception area and lift were quite cramped and the “double bed” in the room was one of the smallest we’ve seen. This was partially made up for by the size of the shower room which seemed larger than the bedroom. Breakfast buffet was very poor with weak coffee and orange squash rather than juice. We managed a couple of cheese and ham rolls on the first morning but didn’t bother thereafter. For anybody visiting here the secret garden at the Letraria Craft Beer establishment opposite is definitely worth a trip.
