"It was in the mountains and the surrounding environment was beautiful. However, there was little options for food and it was quite far from other food options.
The onsen was the highlight!
The room had a musty smell in it but the view from our room was incredible."
"Very cheap with private indoor and outdoor onsen. You will need to reserve but it’s very easy. Location is 20 minute walk from the tram or 5 minute walk from bus station. Very far up in the mountains will be very expensive taxi I would recommend taking bus or tram. Facility is not the cleanest and rooms aren’t the nicest but the price is very good for what you get. Only major complaint is the pillows which are just bags with rice lol."
"It was great experience for family trip and no surprises, but there are few things to improve.
1. Booking via Expedia is lacking communication. (Booked BBQ, but Sukiyaki was prepared)
2. Neighbor group was very noisy until 1am.
Thank you."
"We loved our stay here. The host was lovely and welcoming and did her best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The homemade breakfast and the bath were the highlights of the stay. Would definitely stay here again. "

"Absolutely delightful hotel: helpful staff, clean, comfortable, huge room, wonderful food, free tea/coffee/alcohol whenever you like, japanese robe and towels included. The private onsen was so lovely - don’t be fooled by the photos, it was clean as a whistle, just stained by the minerals in the water. Absolutely enormous amount of all sorts of strange and delicious food for both dinner and breakfast.
I’m staying in hostels pretty much every night of my holiday in Japan but wanted to spend one night having an affordable ryokan experience: this place was by far the cheapest in the Hakone area but I can’t see how it could have been better. Adding be put off by its location, it’s a short very easy bus ride from Lake Biwa; it’s also right next door to a 24 hour convenience store. "
"The hotel is gorgeous and perfectly located near Togendai station. Accessible by public transport, it was easy to get to from Tokyo.
The rooms are perfectly suited for short stays but could be stretched for 3 or 4 days and still be super comfortable. Plenty of Instagram worthy photo opportunities, sensational breakfast and dinner.
Staff are constantly helpful and wonderful. My only issue was 2 nights wasn't enough to catch everything that Hakone and the surrounds had to offer.
Highly recommended."

"A bit hard to get to as there are many Rakuten Stays in the area so it can get a bit confusing as you are driving into the area to find which lodge is the one you have booked.
Also there was a whole in the concrete of our entrance of our bnb and a cricket had made its nest there, so we could hear the cricket the entire night very loudly."
"Amazingly serene and peaceful location. Beautiful mountains around the ancient caldera adds to the uniqueness of the Hotel. Golf driving range as well as a full course is attached to the property. "
"Excellent hotel from a room and dining standpoint. We loved the buffet breakfast and dinners. The room was extremely spacious…stayed in a western room with 2 beds and 3 tatami mats. The onset was lovely as well. Only downside was the distance from main attractions was a 30 min bus ride. "
Enjoy the mountain views and explore Hakone Visitor Center, a lovely green space in Hakone. Wander the lakeside or discover the hot springs in this relaxing area.
