Culture in Monmouth

Visit the Grade-II listed Savoy Theatre. It has 360 seats and is reputed to be the oldest theatre in Wales. You could also visit the Monmouth Museum, packed with artifacts relating to Admiral Nelson, who had associations with the town. Both museum and theatre are located in Monmouth’s centre.

Take a tour of an award-winning vineyard at Ancre Hill Estates Winery. The vineyard’s enthusiastic owners will teach you all about grape growing and the wine distillery process. Whether it’s the countryside setting, or just the wine, this vineyard has a somewhat Mediterranean feel. It’s also a great place to sit back with a bottle of red and a cheeseboard while you watch the sun set beyond the distant woodland.

Monmouth Festival

Music lovers – coincide your trip to Wales with the Monmouth Festival. This nine-day event is one of Europe’s last major music festivals that remains completely free to attend. It has a huge outdoor stage, hosting some of the biggest names in world music. It also incorporates Monmouth’s annual Carnival Day, complete with stalls and street entertainment – and of course, plenty of dancing!
