We were meaning to celebrate mother's day at the Fontainebleau with our 85-year-old mama. What a mistake! We took mama to the italian place right on premises, where she was vomited-on! Happens, right? Even on mother's day. Mama was terribly embarrassed, as if this was somehow her fault, but she did have to walk across the entire hotel (a 20-minute walk across the lobby and all public spaces) back to her room. She promptly requested the laundry service for all her garments as the staff at the restaurant told her the hotel would take care of her. Well, it did! The next day she received her washed belongings (they were returned in a shoebox-sized box) and a bill: for nearly $400!!! Mama was embarrassed by being vomited-on and she was embarrassed by the bill, so we didn't notice the charge until after check-out. Had we noticed, we might have asked if the hotel hand-washed her garments or if they were sanitized and disinfected through some elaborate and extremely costly process. Because a load of laundry should not cost $400 at Fontainbleau or anywhere else in the world. That is outrageous to the highest degree. Considering the circumstances of why mama needed to get her laundry done, we would have expected an apology from the hotel, or an invitation back to the restaurant for a compensatory meal. Fontainbleau is an otherwise-fine hotel, but we will never be back and would not recommend staying there.
