Stanley house is more like a squat than a hotel, the furnishings were broken and dirty. When you walk into the building it is dark and smells of cigarettes, when we got to our rooms we were beyond shocked at how dirty it was, the carpet was filthy and sticky. There was blood on the mattress, the mattress had also seen better days as the springs were sticking out. The linen was not very nice at all and smelt damp. The pillows and duvet were obviously very old and flat as a pancake. It was advertised as having tea & coffee facilities, there were none. There were building works going on which we were not informed of. We could not stay and returned to reception to hand the keys back, when we told the receptionist that we could not stay he just shrugged his shoulders and said no refund. We had to book alternative accomodation. It really was a nightmare and my wife was so distressed by the whole situation, we had bought this trip away as a Christmas present for our son & daughter in law. When we spoke to someone that had relatives visiting from America, they had also booked Stanley house and had had the exact same experience as us. They also chose not to stay. I would not advise booking this hotel if you want somewhere that is clean and comfortable. There really is nothing positive I can say about Stanley house.

Dear guest,Thank you for your review. However, this is more exaggeration than reality. The building is old but other facilities are good. The room was clean and also if you had any issue, a complaint could have been raised at reception which is 24/7. As of vending machine which is free, it could have been out of stock but refilled when staff is being informed. Our room service is provided every day.Regards,Management

Perhaps should have known (given price) or more research but don't expect too much. Very dated and basic. That said, staff were polite and helpful, wifi worked and room was quiet.

Awful rooms, our room had a whole in the wall! Also the hotel offers a “full English breakfast” but all they offer is beans and eggs, never coming back here again!

The room was so small and very damaged, walls, ceiling, old damaged furniture shower room barely fit for one regular size person, very small. Nice people attending, left an belonging on reception area, when I come back it was gone and no one new about it.

I’d never stay here again for as long as I live
Left waiting on arrival for check in, confirmed the desk was 24hour and was told it was. Got back late and nobody at the desk to let us in. Luckily the poor security of the hotel meant you could easily overcome the magnetic lock on the front door. Got up to the room and wanted a shower, no towel in one of the rooms, luckily a friend in another room had a spare so my other half and I had to share a towel so we would have a shower. After our shower we got into bed and I can honestly say I’ve never been more uncomfortable in a bed before. The springs were almost hanging out. Couple that with the fact I could here anything that happened on the floor above us. The single plug socket in the room, the dirty carpets, half the handles on the odd, chipped and generally broken furniture were missing, the bathroom so small a child would struggle to fit inside and the fact that the whole room felt like it was suffering from subsidence, I would suggest paying a bit extra elsewhere and not living like an Albanian prisoner for the time of your stay.

Kinda creepy
Doesn't look like anything has been updated in the past 50 years. Everything looks and smells terrible. I don't think it was actually unhygienic, but the decor and furnishings exuded a distinct grime-vibe. It would definitely be worth paying an extra £50 not to stay here

I’d Not Return
Well, I like to always be as open and honest as I can. Upon approach to Stanley house hotel it looked ok, entered and there was a musty kind of smell and I presumed that was form the old carpets lining the entrance.. checked in and got our room key, 2nd floor no lift (I’m physically fit so wasn’t an issue) as we made our way up the stairs there was a wardrobe and mattress just stored on the landing, and unused toilet on the approach to the 2nd floor and it was smelly (window open and not surprised although didn’t mask the smell) got to our room (R18) and WOW! The wallpaper was peeling from the plaster underneath which was coming away from the walls, the ceiling had been damp because even the ceiling was peeling, cracked & lining paper coming away. The beds were filthy, stained & ripped, the shower was NOT, I repeat was not a shower.. It was basically ya mixer kitchen tap with a flow of only 1 setting, not a sprinkle in sight and the smallest space to squeeze in to. If you’re heavy set you’re dammed in my opinion and then there is the sink! The whole tap spun let alone the handle. I had to approach reception and inform them that the window didn’t have any kind of safety latch at all and that if anything within the room was to be stolen I would be holding the hotel fully accountable, I was informed maintenance would be sort but that didn’t happen. I must admit the staff were polite, respectful and on 24hrs. We didn’t even consider attempting the breakfast 😬

We wanted something close to Victoria Station and it was very good for that. The room was as described. The shower had hot water. The hair dryer was provided. Breakfast was good and hot but would have been nice to have a bit of bacon or sausage with it. There was plenty of toast and tea and coffee. We did find the mattress a bit uncomfortable. All staff were very nice and helpful.

If you are young and adventurous, this is a convenient place due to its central location. The hotel is very close to important public transportation stations. Also, it is relatively close to Buckingham Palace and the Parliament. However, the property is poorly maintained. This is not a good hotel for the elderly and families with a small children. If you are not picky and willing to tolerate the faulty infrastructure, I can tell you that the location of this hotel is super strategic and you will save money.

We had a horrible experience with this property: no hot water, no functioning tv, I returned the remote because it didn't work , they never brought another one, when I told them about the hot water. You had to open the sink faucet and when yo got hot water (that never happened) you had to open the shower knob, no hot water appeared. I called at that moment expedia to tellthem about the issue in real time, and the property denied the claim, no one in my party took a shower, also the continental breakfast was: fried eggs and beans (horrible). If someone wants pics I have them, also holes in the floor (they had carpets) to disguise the issue. springs on mattress out , holes on the mattress, I do not wish this on no one.

the carpets were filthy, and hallways cluttered with garbage bags of laundry and trash, the staff were very unfriendly only one attendant attempted to help us with a query. No top bed sheet on the bed just a thin comforter not sure how clean it was. A full English breakfast was 2 fried eggs, beans and toast don't think that is considered a Full English Breakfast , food was cold. Cold shower almost flooded the bathroom and no towel rack in the bathroom just a ring holder for hand towel THere was no assistance getting luggage up 4 flights of stairs. I would not recommend this B&B it was the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in around the world.

You get what you pay for... for real with this place. It's a VERY OLD MOTEL HOSTEL not hotel. Cons: TV turned on but no channels. Rug as clean as possible for old place. Bathroom good but part of ceiling by shower falling held with black tape. Hair dryer very dirty & didn't work when asked for another one was told they didn't have another. No Air Conditioner or fan. We slept with window semi - open on 1st floor & it was ok. Photos always look much nicer than actual place. Pros: Beds comfortable. Got fresh towels everyday, room cleaned & beds made. With price includes breakfast. Looked good didn't try it. Good safety & security must buzz in & out for them to open door. People friendly. LOCATION IS THE BEST THING...Walking 5 minutes away from Victoria Station, 20 minutes from Buckingham Palace, 3 minutes from great places to eat. 10 minutes from Fellas Peri only food place open till 11pm. If you get the place for cheap, only need to sleep & can't find something else go for it. If not splurge on a better place.

Room is old looking and has an unpleasant smell. Toilet sink is too small and they put a cabinet just at the top of it that it makes it very difficult to use especially when washing your face or brushing your teeth. No glass provided as well.
