A Hidden Gem – My Favorite Stay in Wales!

"My stay at The Oakeley Arms Hotel in Blaenau Ffestiniog was truly the highlight of my time in Wales. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel so welcome—friendly, attentive, and even greeting me by name (perhaps I stood out as a solo female traveler!). Their warmth and hospitality set the tone for the entire visit. The hotel restaurant was an unexpected delight. Coming from the U.S., I was blown away by the quality, flavor, and generous portions of every meal. Everything I tried was absolutely delicious—so much so that I felt guilty not finishing it all! Be sure to leave room for dessert; each one is divine and worth the indulgence. My room had a comfortable single bed that was perfect for me. The space was surprisingly large and the bathroom was lovely—clean, well-kept, and thoughtfully appointed. Thank you, Oakeley Arms, for such a wonderful experience. You made this solo traveler feel right at home. I can genuinely say this was my best stay in Wales!"

"A really great place to stay, this: not only a lovely setting handy for all sorts of attractions, but an interesting building ,itself, inside and out. Then, there’s the bedroom, en-suite and their attendant facilities — all excellent. But the best part is Mike & Sue, the hosts: very welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable, and entertaining! Add to this the great breakfast (both for its many options, and its first-class execution and presentation), and you genuinely couldn’t ask for more. We hope to come again — definitely."

"Very disappointed with this stay. arrived at hideaway to find no Not Water in the property - contacted the host to just be sent messages on how to use a basic thermostat on a shower and basically called me a liar. one of his responses being there is a boiling water tap attached to the kitchen sink - perfect to have a wash under. The property is said to be attached to a ruined 1610 building. it was all boarded up with rubbish and constructon materials everywhere. not the picturesque hideaway we had booked and where expecting "

"We, 4 adults, spent 3 nights there and it was nice that we always had hot water and the heating warmed up quickly the cottage. There is a nice view from the balcony. Although the cabin is advertised for 6 people the 2 bunk beds are for children as adults might find them too small and short therefore I would not recommend it for 6 adults. "

Cottage vibes

"The place itself it's amazing, with stunning surroundings, great play ground for kids , coffee and bar just steps away. the property itself is dated, in need of serious cleaning, but it was cozy and warm. We found a welcome pack with some coffee sachets, sugar and drinking chocolate. Thank you All the essentials to cook breakfast and dinner were there . Not sure if it's normal thing but there was one roll of toilet paper only and no spare bin bags or food waste bags. Bunk beds on the small side , and my kids are on the small side That didn't stop us from having fun, relax and enjoy our stay We stayed at number 8 "
