I loved my stay in this guest house and only wished I could spend longer there. The property is clean and beautiful and the staff were wonderful, friendly and helpful. I stayed in a single room on a corridor with two beautiful bathrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen and a living room and dining room. I could have lived there for a month. As I only had one afternoon and evening there I was delighted that there was a craft/food market directly opposite the hotel. I was able to buy artisan gifts without having to take a taxi anywhere. There are also plenty of coffee shops and restaurants in easy walking distance, as well as a supermarket a few doors away. I will definitely come back and spend a few nights here on my next visit to Portugal in the autumn.

I only stayed for part of one night as I had a very early flight. I loved the building and location and the staff. Everyone was super helpful and friendly. Unfortunately all the comings and going’s and paper thin walls kept me from sleeping before my 2 AM wake up to get to the airport.

I was greeted by a very friendly staff member, who checked me in and showed me around the hotel. All the staff I met were very friendly and helpful. The shared spaces are all very clean and decorated nicely. There is a 24hour coffee and tea room, it is an awesome place to hang out. The bathrooms were always clean as well. The shared kitchen is stocked with dishes and cooking utensils and a couple of fridges and freezers to store food in. The building is old and not built with great sound proofing. you will hear people walking about or talking close by. If you are in a room on the inner part you won't get the street noise. The area around the hotel is nice. It has everything you will need close by( shopping, grocery, trains, parks,ect.) It is about a 2km walk to most of the main attractions of the city, but not as busy with loads of tourists. There are lots of locals though. As a solo female traveler I found it to be a very safe area and great hotel to stay in.

We loved our stay at Chalet D'Avila guest house. Yes, it's out of the city center a bit and there is a shared bathroom, but it is excellent value for money! There is a bus stop and an underground station near the property, so getting to and from the city center was very easy. The shared bathrooms were also kept spotless and there were 3 bathrooms on our side of the floor, so we never really had to wait to use the bathroom. The staff at reception were also extremely friendly and helpful with everything. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Chalet D'Avila Guesthouse and would definitely recommend it to everyone else!
