My host family took me to Lake Takerkoust (its dam powers all of Amizmiz and Marrakech) for a hike. Up here, you can see the entire floodplain and the river tributary that flows into the main lake. Far away on the other side, you can see a motorbike riding across the dirt road as if a speck of dust was slowly floating across space. As we sat and ate our picnic of fruit and veggy sticks, I couldn't help but wonder how much more Morocco is than just its stereotypical perception, a desert.

The area is very rural which is part of the charm. There are a couple of options for lunch and dinner which are right on the lake and serve Mediterranean insprired cuisine. There are also lots of fun things to do on quad bikes, horses or dune buggies
