Placid Bay Hotel

"You check via text so you don’t see anyone. We sat on the parking lot for an hour waiting for our room. They said they would let us know as soon as the room was ready. The cleaning crew was gone after we were there 10 minutes. But, because I wouldn’t pay $35 for early check in they made us wait until 3:56. Contactless check in has its advantages. But, in this case, we just wanted to drop off the luggage and then go on our hike. Leaving our items in the car is risky when a person is away from the car. With nobody at the hotel, we can’t drop off the luggage. There was no staff at the hotel, so the room was sitting empty. Thus, leaving it in the room that was never going to be entered except by us in a couple hours would seem like a reasonable compromise to help customers. Instead, we left and came back and the rest was explained above."

"Staff very courteous and helpful. Hotel had an excellent location with free parking. There is a resort fee for the “resort” amenities (pool), lakefront use, etc.). They had an onsite restaurant which was very convenient with a good breakfast! The rooms are clean and spacious. The hotel is older which could be updated (carpet, etc) but don’t we all! 😉"

"Ok, so it’s Lake Placid, aka Fairyland. And in this beautiful town lies a historic hotel that’s trying to get back to the glory days. Threatened with demolition, the new owners picked up the ball so long ago dropped and are doing their best to return it to its former self. First, the service: they will go above and beyond to make your stay as pleasant and trouble-free as possible. The manager actually offered me a ride to a destination about a half mile away. No one does that..except Keith. Second, the rooms: they are small, but very refined. The bed was exceptionally comfy-firm, the sheets were a dream, and the decor is Art Deco. Also, the TV and the HVAC performed as they should, which is not always the case. They offer a beautiful art deco commons complete with a coffee bar, a piano, fireplace and jazz. So fun to sit and take it all in. No place is perfect, so if there was one thing I would change is to offer real cream vs powdered creamer, but I’m sure that will come later. I highly recommend the St Moritz in an effort to encourage their endeavors to bring a little of the sultry, glamorous past to our overworked and detached world of the 21st century. And yes, it’s AFFORDABLE!!!"

"we went a little beyond our normal hotel stays and booked a queen suite; we were not disappointed. The room was huge, having a separate bedroom made it very comfortable. The large counter in the bathroom was very helpful. Staff was very friendly and helpful, check-in and out were easy. The grounds were clean and well maintained with a courtyard and fire pit out back. The lobby/bar/restaurant area was huge and very nice. It's about a mile on foot to downtown Lake Placid (uphill) so think hard before trying. We would strongly recommend this facility and will stay here again."

"Was awesome and the room was awesome and the property is so nice. Lady at reception desk at the spa was not that welcoming. But other than that everyone else made us feel spoiled and wonderful."

"Friendly and attentive staff from front desk to housekeeping. Very clean room with beautiful view. Full use of all amenities offered by High Peaks. Walking distance to downtown shops & restaurants. Great stay!"

"It was the perfect up to date, modern, clean hotel room, right in the middle of Main Street. Very comfortable queen bed, very nice shower. Very easy, convenient , no hassle valet parking. I would come back here again and I would highly recommend it to other people. It was a great stay, great experience."
