The Grand Hotel

"The Grand Hotel is a historic property with excellent staff and great food, and it's very handy if you're travelling by rail to or from the adjacent Torquay station. The recent renovation of the indoor pool, changing rooms and spa facilities was long overdue and provides a now clean and welcoming experience, although the arrangement remains sub-optimal from a hygiene perspective with guests and staff having to walk poolside wearing shoes to access the changing rooms. The lobby and bar area are well-appointed and welcoming, the restaurant serves fantastic food but is somewhat shabby with dated decor and fittings. The breakfast buffet is extensive with everything you could imagine, and even includes a gluten free section. On the upper floors, the rooms, corridors and staircases remain very dated, with 1980s bathrooms, peeling window frames, and old radiators. Some updates to furniture, interior decoration and modern TV sets do little to offset the sense that this a dated property long overdue for comprehensive refurbishment. One of the two lifts was out of service for the duration of our stay. Nevertheless this is a very welcoming and pleasant place to stay, and the pool/spa facilities are perfectly decent following the recent works. It's also great value, and I suspect that if it were comprehensively renovated to contemporary 4 star expectations I would probably not be able to afford it!"

"Exceptional Stay with Fantastic Staff! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Passage House Hotel Holiday Apartments, and it exceeded all expectations! Location: Situated in a great location, it provided the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area while offering a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Accommodations: The room was exceptionally clean, modern, and very comfortable, making it feel like a true home away from home after a busy day out. Service: What truly sets this place apart is the team. The staff were fantastic and genuinely friendly, always going above and beyond with a welcoming smile to ensure we had everything we needed. Overall, it was a truly wonderful experience. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming getaway! "The owners were very informative on where to visit & where we would find nice places to eat, for our evening meal. Nikki & Ian the owners are very helpful. The breakfast is wonderful no fault at all, there is nothing they will not do for you, I enjoy a green tea which they had & Nikki offered fresh lemon, lime or mint with it. Also I like an omelette. After talking to both Nikki & Ian about my love of Thai food, I was offered Thai chilli in my omelette which was very tasty & spicy but not too spicy. My husband could not fault the full English breakfast. Everything was freshly cooked to order. The room was spacious & clean, with replenished toiletries & tea & coffee each day. We visited Teignmouth, which is a lovely sea side resort where we got the ferry across to Shaldon. Definitely worth a visit. Also Dawlish Warren is a lovely family friendly beach, plenty to do to keep the children occupied. Dawlish itself is a very nice resort, everyone very friendly with a new cray golf for all the family of any age. All the beaches have dog friendly areas aswell as no dog zones."

"Our first mini break away alone, in 13 years and it didn't dissapoint. Anne is the most lovely host, so organised, courteous and kind, nothing was too much trouble. We were a little hot in the small double room, however Anne quickly provided a fan that assisted well. Breakfast was very tasty and scheduled for a time to suit us. Anne was very accommodating to my intolerances and catered with alternative milk and yoghurt. When booking I was unsure if booking the pool would be inconvenient, if plans changed and did think why did they not have the pool open at all times. However, when we were there it all made sense. You book your time slot for your 2 hour private session, with your selection of music, Anne was kind enough to bring us water & icecream during too. It would not have been the same tranquil experience if we would have been in the pool with others. The pool and poolside was extremely clean. The pool was warm at 30degrees. The whole atmosphere of the house and garden was tranquil and relaxing, it truly gave spa vibes. It was just what we were looking for. We did think you could do some costal walks directly from the house but that was my mistake for not looking into this more. However, everywhere was so close by car. We visited Babbicombe, Totnes, Torquay, Teignmouth, Mary Church and Dawlish. Please follow the directions to the house that are sent to you as we got to the bottom of the road (the wrong end) and it was very dangerous to drive up."
