The Relais Cooden Beach

"I think it's hugely important that guests are informed that there are no lifts - we had rooms 117/118 and it was not easy to get upstairs especially with the fire door (which I know is necessary) at the top of the stairs plus I found it quite daunting going down the steps into the bathroom. We had a very nice lunch on the 28th so only needed a snack in the evening so if sandwiches are only allowed in the bedrooms in the evenings why is there not a menu in the room? We were lucky because on the night we stayed the dining room was very quiet so we were able (very unofficially) to have our very enjoyable sandwiches down stairs - we can't be the first guests to experience this little quirky thing can we? In fact quirky is how I would describe the hotel - nothing seemed to jell - there was no overall pattern - nothing seemed to match - it didn't appear to know what it wanted to be. The location is amazing and needs to be embraced. Would a small area near the bar for snacks and light meals encourage local people to come in - a welcoming something/somewhere is desperately needed. The reception area is easily missed and almost non existent - perhaps that's just a winter thing. The staff were all very friendly which was good and we enjoyed our brief stay but there were several buts......."

"The hotel is beautiful, right on the seafront, parking is easy and costs just £2.50 per 24 hours. There are some lovely communal areas to sit with the most amazing views. I didn’t pay for a sea view and I wish I had because our view was terrible, just looking at the back of some buildings. Breakfast was good although quite often you were waiting for things to be topped up. A very nice touch was a free coffee machine which was open for most of the day and it had very lovely hot chocolate! All in all an excellent stay"
