Not sure why people rate this hotel as high as they do, but we are seasoned travellers with high expectations.
Firstly, the young woman at the front of house had the friendliness of a turnip. We did get the free drinks but it was of no use as the restaurant next door was closed.
The hotel’s walls are filled with mediocre cowboy art at outrageous prices. (The bronzes are nice).
We appreciated the secure parking provided (it was what made us choose the hotel over the Gibson, which is far a far superior hotel, in unfortunate hindsight).
The room is tired. Industrial floooring, an old tired bathroom with 2 minuscule towels, questionable shampoo and conditioner, and rags for face towels (they looked like they’re to wipe the floor from the open shower concept where the water floods the floor.
Lighting was not all working. The hotel bed was fine but the pillows were 12 x 12 inches. Really odd.
Late check out is frowned upon (it was a Monday and the hotel seemed deserted) but we managed to wrangle an extra 30 minutes more. Nevertheless, cleaning staff tried to barge in the room beforehand (thankfully we had the door lock in place).
We will definitely book at the Gibson in the future unless this tired hotel gets new staff and does a full renovation.
