Our room (Jasmine) had a direct panoramic view of Bird Lake and we saw many different species of birds as well as small animals including chipmunks, water monitors, geckos (and a cobra one one day but soon banished by the staff...). "The staff there were amazing. Extremely friendly and always there for information. Sadly though the place itself isn't well maintained. If they are able to get to get on top of this now they can really turn this around. Swimming pool: the tiles around the edge and the gutter needs to be cleaned daily. "Nice hotel in the heart of Hikkaduwa. Good buffet breakfast. Plenty of restaurants near by if you want a change from hotel food. Like most hotels in this area it is right on the very busy main road. Traffic at night is very noisy, worth paying for a sea view room if you can."
