Disliked: Amenities
I found the whole experience ordinary.
I thought at breakfast it was unsafe people walking around with hot drinks when small children are around.
I certainly won't be staying there again or recommending.

Excellent value for money.
Only small problem was the extractor in the bathroom constantly on,and the radiator in the room made a hissing noise when turned up?

Disliked: Staff & service
The hotel in itself was lovely, but seriously lacking in facilities and service. First issue was that we couldn't call the hotel to discuss some needs we had before arriving. No direct telephone to hotel. On arrival we checked in and went to get some drinks only to be told we could not charge anything to room for payment in morning, payment at point of order was required. Later we
thought we'd go to the pool for a swim, but there wasn't anyone on pool desk to give us access or take payment, we left after about 20 mins - hotel reception said the duty staff had probably gone to get more towels!!! After a very nice evening out we returned to our room and headed to bed for the night only to be woken up around 1a.m. to a full fire alarm going off. Needless to say we got up and quickly put some clothes on to evacuate the building; on arriving at the staircase to exit building ourselves and a number of other guests found a porter coming up the stairs telling us to go back to bed it's probably someone smoking in their room. Bearing in mind that there are over 100 rooms in this old building we felt this approach from staff was not acceptable and we promptly returned to our room and had a chat about the situation, we felt that our personal safety could be in jeopardy so we chose at around1.30am to pack up our belongings and return home.
Very conveniently placed for walking into Buxton but rooms are totally depressing. Our room, 304, had no working heating and no heating or heated towel rail in the small, cramped bathroom. The lift is grindingly slow. Breakfast was good however and staff friendly. So, convenient, but that's about all.
