“Good location, helpful staff, nice rooms”

We stayed here for 2 nights, it was a great base - 10 mins walk from Fisherman's Wharf and 30 mins walk from the aquarium. Parking was easy, we also tried the food in the tapas bar, which was delicious. Free DVD loan (if you want to stay in in the evenings ...tho it's well worth wandering along the seafront to watch the sea otters, seals and sealions).

“Downtown Monterey”

This hotel is well situated for the downtown area of Monterey. We found the staff more than helpful and extremely personable. The rooms are smaller than typical chain hotels but extremely comfortable and well appointed with parking available outside your room. If we had one criticism it is that the sound insulation in the rooms is not up to modern standards and we could hear someone snoring in the next room.

“Great Welcome”

I always think that the welcome you receive at a hotel sets the tone for the stay and we got an excellent welcome. The guy on reception was first class. The room was adequate though not spectacular. The pool was clean and just a minutes walk from any of the rooms. The new bar and restaurant looked nice but we didnt use it as it was full of conference guests. Location is fine - 5/10 minutes walk down the main street to Fishermans wharf but a little way from the Cannery/Aquarium.

“staff were the stars”

Staff were the major bonus here. We needed to seek medical help for a member of our party at a late hour and the staff were great. Gave us numbers, contacts , maps and use of their phone. Very good. Thanks

“Rooms do not come up to scratch”

Public areas of this hotel appear to have undergone major refurbishment and are very good. Rooms, however, are in desperate need of refurbishment and were definitely not up to scratch. Rooms are also motel-style with outside corridors and staircases. Did like the complimentary coffee/tea with delicious cookies in the afternoon. The offering in the morning was hot drinks with a piece of fruit.

“Superficially very pleasant but...”

Hotel looks very smart on arrival but the room was a disappointment: it looked like it hadn't been decorated for over 10 years - the carpet was worn, the tap had a bit which kept falling off and the door had to be kicked in to open it! We spoke to reception staff about the door - they got maintenance to come along but they didn't do anything. They told us to continue kicking the door to open it every time.
