You won’t spend long in Woodstock without locals proudly telling you it’s the dairy capital of Canada. This is celebrated with the Springbank Snow Countess Monument. The life-size sculpture is a tribute to a record breaking cow that produced an amazing 9,062 pounds (4,110 kilograms) of butterfat during her lifetime.
To learn about the city’s history, spend a few hours in the Woodstock Museum. Exhibits here trace the area’s past as far back as 10,000 B.C. You can also see Woodstock’s original council chambers from 1879 and the 1889 Grand Hall. Continue your cultural tour with a visit to the Woodstock Gallery.
Go on a tour of one of Woodstock’s oldest buildings, Old St. Paul’s Anglican Church. The first religious service was celebrated in this Georgian style building in 1834 and the cemetery is where many of the town’s first settlers are buried.
Get out and explore Woodstock’s countryside and parks. Walk along paths that follow the River Thames and pass through forests and marshland. There are also numerous parks with picnic areas and children’s playgrounds.
Join in a weekly Woodstock tradition, shopping at the farmers market. It is held every Saturday and is where you can purchase locally produced cheese, bread, meat and handicrafts.
Woodstock is situated close to the city of London and is around a 2-hour drive from Toronto. The nearest international airport is London International Airport, 23 miles (37 kilometres) away. You will find the majority of accommodation in the centre of town.
