Even though the hotel has been renovated, access to basic amenities such as free wifi looks like as if there policies are still stuck in the late 1900s. Staff is a hit and miss - we checked out on July 23rd and we were charged $99.00 for parking to which we were never informed of initially during our check-in. We notified the hotel staff that during the check-in, the parking pass was to provide us with unlimited free parking within the hotel since there was also a COVID-19 vaccination clinic occurring simultaneously in the conference centre which used the same parking lot. We hoped the staff on duty would kindly provide some rational explanation since it felt like an arbitrary charge without initially first letting us know of the cost of parking before hand for hotel guests. The results were extremely disappointing, as one of the staff members (Cynthia) became increasingly apprehensive, stating “it’s the city of Victoria’s parking lot, you’ll need to pay. Too bad for not telling for beforehand but you need to pay now.” My wife and I expected a higher level of service since this was a 4 star hotel with the Fairmont name, but clearly that’s not the case.
It’s clear there renovation was just cosmetically, as internally, they still think its 1980. We highly recommend staying at other hotels in the future given it’s extremely out dated policies, fee hidden agendas, lack of transparency in communication from hotel staff. Terrible experience.
