"Our room was absolute barebones !!!! No chair no hanging cupboard, no night lamps, no tv, no tea or coffee facilities, no decoration of any kind, two wooden boxes for bed stands !!! No cups or glasses for water. Bathroom the same, bad smell from shower, no water pressure, toilet cistern faulty, had to open tank to get floater valve to work. No cupboard beneath the sink, bordered up, no place to put toiletries, tiles unfinished in shower !!!!"

"We absolutely fell in love with the Pipe House charm and the warm and friendly owner! Great vibes, beautiful location just steps from the beach, unique lodgings and fun common areas to hang out. We can’t say enough about this gem of a place. We ate dinner down the way at the Swells Cafe Playa Grande. This is a very special place to be! I plan on returning in the future. Hopefully sooner than later. "

"Staff was incredible. Everyone we encountered was very friendly, helpful, and kind which had a very positive impact on our stay. Location isnt ideal do to being on a hill at a relatively far distance from the beach but also made for a great view for the sunsets. The shuttle did help alleviate this issue and ubers were pretty cheap as well. Included breakfast was ok and what you would expect for a hotel breakfast. "
"The owners and cleaning service folks are just very warm and accommodating. The vibe is accepting and supportive. I stayed here 20 years ago and had a similar experience. They are nice people running a great, small hotel. "

"I Love this hotel. I have lived in Costa Rica 10 years in the Central Valley close to SJO airport for my work. My wife and I enjoy the beaches of Guanacaste so when I have a block of days off we will make the run to Tamarindo.
She found Hotel Perla on the beach so we wanted try it out. It is now our go to place! Why:
1. Directly on the beach. Our room is separated by 75' of grass and lounge chairs then the sand. The ocean varies because of the tide. At high tide there is typically 20-30 surfers enjoying the waves. We swam every day.
2. Customer service checking in and hotel questions is excellent.
3. Free breakfast is a 2-minute walk to Hotel Diria. Excellent buffet.
4. Access to two pools. One at Diria on the beach and my favorite across the street (Diria Condos) with water features and an awesome swim up bar.
5. Easy safe and secure free self parking if you have a car.
6. Easy walking distance to 25+ restaurants and bars, boutique shops and a little market directly next door for things you might need for the room.
Hotel Perla was recently remodeled. We prefer more of a local type hotel vs the fancier Diria next door for about double the price. (Same owner)
Pura vida!"
"Hotel El Manglar is maybe my most favorite hotel EVER! The grounds are beautiful!! The staff is so kind and helpful. Dylan and Georgia at the front desk were just incredible! The beach is stunning and the private path to the beach is magical! Our villa was comfortable and very clean. It had a king size bed, large shower, nice little kitchen and sitting area. Both the sitting area and kitchen had French doors that opened to the porch. We enjoyed our Costa Rican coffee and banana bread each morning on the porch. We had everything we needed! We loved the hammock on our private porch too! We surfed every day and I conveniently rented my surfboard from the hotel. We also enjoyed swimming in the lovely pool after a surf session. The owners of this hotel have created a paradise environment in Playa Grande. Dylan even arranged a tour of the estuary where we saw all kinds of wildlife including iguanas, crocodiles, the mangrove hawk and a family of Howler Monkeys. The food at the hotel's restaurant (a short walk from the hotel grounds) was delicious and fresh with great service (Luis). There is also another restaurant next door that serves great food and the homemade banana bread. I can't wait to go back!!! Hotel El Manglar is dreamy!!! "
