Hidden gem!
We decided we wanted to stay one more night in Tulum so we booked Secret Garden and were not disappointed! It's peaceful, unique and very charming. The owner/manager is really kind and helpful and you can tell he takes a lot of pride in the hotel with many thoughtful touches - my favourite was the fairy lights on the swing in front of each room! While it is a very tasteful and lovely hotel, just bear in mind that it's not luxury - so expect a few mosquitos, small bathroom and a curtain to the bathroom rather than a door (attention new couples!). Also, for those driving there is parking on the street. Overall we were super happy with the hotel, and the price point can't be beat. I will definitely be staying on a return trip to Tulum!

PROS: For those looking for a boutique eco-lodge in downtown Tulum this is perfect. It's very close to the ADO bus station and restaurants but on one of the side streets so very peaceful at night. It has simple basic amenities like toiletries, towels, cups, dishes but no frills or extras. The staff are very nice and speak English well. They only have a few rooms so you will get plenty of attention. CONS: It should be noted though that some of the rooms have no A/C so if you are sensitive to heat this may not be for you. There are fans. The room I stayed in had no door to the bathroom, only a small curtain so there is not much privacy. The room has a thatch roof so you may hear animals or birds scurrying at night which took a little getting used to!

A nice and clean hideaway in the town of Tulum for a good price. The center garden area with couches was very nice. The owners where very professional and nice. They spoke English which was helpful.

The bungalows are a nice large space for two people. They are sparsely furnished, but we spent most of our time away from the hotel exploring ruins and Cenotes. They do not have TVs or air conditioning so if you are lounge-in-the-room kind of traveler you may want a different place. Extremely friendly staff with great local food recommendations. Possibly the biggest deal breaker is that the bathroom door is only a curtain. If that is something you can overlook then I highly recommend this place as a lovely place to come home to after days of adventuring out.

Great little place with a beautiful garden area. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Night time security made it feel safe. It’s just a block from a great coffee shop and a local taco joint. My only complaint is that the pillows were very thick and very hard. I actually slept without a pillow most nights. But I would stay here during our next trip to Tulum.

What a dream!! This place is so magical, you’ll feel like you’re walking into an oasis. We loved hanging out in the garden every night. The rooms have all of the necessities, but you’ll really stay here for the garden :) also, we got great recommendations from Jerry! He was so kind and recommended the best things!! (Ask him where to go!) this is a great little spot in a good location of town!

Lovely Place to Stay in Town
If you're going to Tulum and staying in town, I would strongly recommend looking into this charming, tucked-away, centrally-located inn. The room was peaceful and clean, the owners and staff were helpful giving directions and information, and the garden is truly majestic.

Horrible experience !!
Arrived 1 am in the morning after a long flight from Europe. The first thing that jumped out of the bed was a cacroach when I lifted the towel. Went straight to the doorman and checked out. Horrible experience.

Rustic charm, friendly staff, central location
Secret Garden is just 2 blocks from the main road, so it is centrally located especially if you are on foot. The staff are friendly and helpful, even providing a brief orientation of the area, what to see and do and recommendations on where to eat and calling me by my name. The room itself is rustic, but clean. It can be a little noisy in the first room (traffic and music from neighbors), but perhaps not so bad farther into the property. The mattress was firmer than I prefer and had a little bit of a dip. No A/C but opening the window shutters just so and running the 3 fans made the heat and humidity bearable. There is a guard on duty at night. The central courtyard is a great place to sit and read and enjoy the sounds of the birds.

Our room was exceptionally clean and cozy! We loved the garden, it was so beautiful and relaxing! Jorge was also such a big help in showing us what’s around town and how to get around. Awesome hidden little spot, we can’t wait to go back!

A Pleasant Stay
Secret Garden is well-run business with lovely staff, but don’t expect much more than a private room in a quality youth hostel. The garden is lush and the Secret Garden is at the end of a no through road. It’s relatively quiet and there was free parking outside the front gate for our hire car, but the properties immediately surrounding the establishment make it not somewhere you will want to hang around in. A walk to the main strip of restaurants and bars will take around 15 minutes, but there is a bunch of others along the way. Overall we had a pleasant stay, but next time we will stay at the beach or closer to main action in Tulum.

Tranquility in the heart of local Tulum
After you stay here, you will never decide to stay in a larger hotel again. Everything about this place is magical. The staff are exceptional in attending to your needs, the overgrown vines wrapped around trees are home to pretty local birds, and if you lay down on their hammock and close your eyes you will lose yourself in pure bliss. If you want a peaceful stay in a beautiful local hotel, this is it!!

Nice quiet Garden Setting
Quiet garden courtyard. Hotel is only a few blocks from the Main Street with all the restaurants and shops. We enjoyed the courtyard day and night. The garden setting was a nice escape from the heat. The staff was very friendly and helped with restaurant recommendations and helped to set up our New Years Eve celebration. There is a nice nook in the courtyard where we enjoyed our morning coffee and breakfast some of the days.The Hotel is off the beaten path slightly, and is nestled in the middle of the regular community. Which we found to be nice.

Cozy hotel, great location!
We were welcomed by very friendly staff. The hotel is a hidden gem! It's located close to the Tulum attractions and lots of good eats. Walking in the streets you also get a sense of the culture, which is nice! There are bike rental places nearby and you can easily bike to the beach! The hotel itself isn't anything fancy, but it's very cozy and adequate!

Wonderful and helpful staff. Charming hotel.
Our yearly girls trip occurred 2/11/17 through 2/18/17. The staff assisted us in setting up tours and arranging a driver for other activities. The hotel is only 8 rooms and is charming and quaint. Free continental breakfast and immaculately clean rooms.

Really enjoyed our stay - the hotel was perfectly located to Tulum town, so close to restaurants and shops. The hotel room was spacious and had all the essentials. The garden area was perfect - nice outdoor furniture to lounge on while using WiFi. The hotel staff was so friendly and helpful, gave lots of tips and recommendations. Would stay here again!

Great stay!
We absolutely loved Tulum, and the secret garden was a great place to organise our trip from. Ridiculously cheap for the quality it! The staff are helpful and nice, only downside is the breakfast isn't anything special - the milk was slightly off one morning. On the whole though I can't recommend Tulum or this hotel enough!

Charming hostel, great location
My friend and I had a wonderful stay at Secret Garden! It's located just a few minutes walk from the Main Street/ADO bus statio in a quiet spot situated within a local neighborhood. You can easily catch a taxi for the beach (costs about $70 pesos one way). The facilities are clean, well-decorated, and incredibly relaxing. The only thing that I would note is that the included breakfast is fairly light (toast from delicious homemade bread and cereal), so it'd be a great idea to bring your own fruit to cut up and eat with the provided items. In all, we had a fantastic experience at Secret Garden and will definitely be staying there again when we return to Tulúm.

Amazing hidden gem in Tulum town
My wife and I are travelling through Central America for our honeymoon, and we debated on staying on the beach or staying in town while visiting Tulum. We chose the town, and Secret Garden, and we are so glad we did! The Secret Garden was a beautiful oasis and the perfect hideaway for us to explore the area and retreat back to for rest or to avoid the mid-day heat. We stayed in a palapa style room with a comfortable bed, solid wifi, and good AC. The staff were amazing and very helpful - from Helen, Meidi, and Joshua, and all the cleaning and support staff. We ended up booking some tours through the folks here and had great experiences. Amazing value for the price and we would definitely come back.

Awesome place to stay in Tulum!
The staff here went above and beyond to ensure they helped us out. We had to stay at another hostel the night before because Secret Garden only had 1 night available. But when we arrived in Tulum via bus we went straight to Secret Garden before our first hostel and spoke to an employee, Meddis. He gave us some water and tips for the area and told us we could leave our bags there early the next morning before we headed on an excursion to Coba. Even though our room wouldn't be available yet, they let us drop off our bags that morning and by the time we got back from our excursion, they had our bags waiting for us in the room. The staff also provided us with helpful tips on where to go and how much we should expect to pay. Then the next day, we left early for a tour of the Tulum Ruins and snorkeling at Dos Ojos Cenote and they arranged it for us to leave our bags in the room before we left that morning and they kept them safe in the office for us until our return that afternoon. Overall, we were extremely impressed with the staff and the facilities and wish we could have stayed for much longer! The rooms and common area were really nice and contained a beautiful garden and were perfect for relaxing and meeting other guests.

Nice, cozy hotel very close to downtown Tulum
The hotel manager was very friendly. He showed us to our rooms and then asked us to check in whenever we feel well rested. The rooms were pleasantly decorated and I liked their creativity at it. I however felt in case of some pillows comfort was compromised for looks. Neverthless, I would say it was a wonderful hotel to stay at.

1. Our room had fans but no AC and was extremely musty. To air it - only partly successful - we had to leave the windows open all night. Therefore, we felt uncomfortable about security. (The shutters on one window did not latch securely anyway.) 2. Breakfast was not available until 8:30. As we wanted to get to the Tulum ruins before the tour groups, we couldn't partake. 3. The booking process for this hotel was most strange and seemed to violate the usual hotels.com procedures or policies. We booked 2 rooms (one for another person) under the condition that we would pay at the hotel. The hotel emailed that it was taking a 50% deposit on our credit card. We had to change the bookings (this time, one room); the hotel wrote that it would refund the initial down-payment. But when we checked in, they instead gave us cash back. The process was confusing and not as the hotel had promised. 4. There was a big cockroach in the bathroom. 4. On a more positive note, the location is quiet yet convenient, and the garden is pretty. There were some kitchen facilities available in the room. (We didn't use them.)

Best place in Tulum town!
This hotel and especially the staff are absolutely wonderful! The atmosphere captures the soul of Tulum. The photos are exactly what you can expect to see. The staff made great guides and will help make your trip an awesome one. The location is great because it's tucked away from the busy main street, but it's only two blocks from it, restaurants, bars, and shops.

Charming & relaxing little hotel
What a charming hotel. Out of all the places we stayed during our trip around the Yucatan, this was our favorite. We were greeted personally and given a great little introduction to the city. There's a quaint little garden with hammocks to relax in. The beds were very comfortable, the neighborhood quiet, the water pressure in the shower was amazing (not easy to find in Mexico). Just note that the staff are only there from 9am-9pm, so you are responsible for locking and unlocking the gate during other hours. We were told to leave our keys in our room if we needed to leave early, but then we discovered we needed our key to get out of the gate, so we were locked in for a little bit until we found a neighbor to let us out.
