Hotel was basic and tidy and reasonably priced. However, it is in need of modernisation and the cleanliness could be better. For example, I had to clean the light switch after entering the room. They have also just opened the swimming pool which is a bonus and a basic breakfast is included.
Been to this hotel before it was lovely new owners now arrived was told I needed photo ID if I didn’t have it I had to pay £100 deposit they charge you £10 for parking you can park out on the road for free plenty of space my bathroom has mould door not painted properly Toilet roll hanging off wall curtains with filthy sideboard was stained and scratched up. Need a good clean and new furniture. Must say bedding was very clean comfortable bed had a beautiful view from balcony. As long as you know, it’s a budget hotel you’ll be okay don’t expect the Ritz.
The hotel is a lovely place, the staff was friendly and very helpful.
On the days when we stayed the unique bad things we encountered were noise guesses in the room next door, so we couldn't really rest as we expected but apart from that attention at the hotel in great!

I recently stayed at this hotel and had a very mixed experience. The gentleman on the night shift was extremely rude and arrogant – without doubt the most unpleasant member of staff I’ve ever come across in a hotel. However, the lady on reception in the morning was the complete opposite: very polite, helpful, and welcoming. The owner was also friendly and made an effort, which I really appreciated.
That being said, they charge £10 per night for parking, which feels like daylight robbery, especially since you don’t even get a guaranteed parking space for that fee. The condition of the hotel itself isn’t great – it’s definitely in need of some attention – but for the price you pay, it’s decent value.
Overall, the stay was acceptable thanks to the morning staff and the owner, but the night staff really lets the place down.
Awful! No running cold water in room, couldn't flush toilet, kettle was disgusting so couldn't use, no cups,no soap. Poor cleanliness. TV okay, bed comfy, clean bedding and towels. Parking advertised but be warned there is a £10 charge per night which I found out on arrival and didn't see mentioned on website.

Room was what we paid for - cheap and cheerful. Nothing special. Windows were filthy but the view was great. Leaving the windows open meant it was very noisy. We were next to the stairs so also heard everyone coming and going. Mattress was old and springy.
This hotel was disgusting I wouldn’t have left a dog here let alone human however customer sevices were great when I called them and they transferred us to TorPark hotel which was spot on very clean and staff were amazing nothing was ever too much trouble! So definite no go for Richmond hotel but Tor park is recommended

Work in progress
Before our stay I received an email confirming our booking for a Deluxe Double Ensuite room with a sea view. One day before our trip I received a call from HH Hotels informing me that if I had any questions just to call them. On our journey to the hotel I received another call telling me that the sea view room was no longer available. She said "You haven't paid yet and you booked with Hotels.com" I could have a Deluxe Double Ensuite room. We were given what could only be described as a hell hole in the basement near the fire escape. The route to exit was flooded. The carpet worn, the sink had major cracks which were black with mould and lack of cleaning, the shower had no door or curtain and again was disgusting. The velour headboard was thick with dust. I reported this and was moved to a small but slightly cleaner room. The door handle in the bathroom was broken and couldn't be used, therefore could not be closed. The shower was just no good at all , either scalding or very cold. The bed was comfortable. There were ample plug sockets. The chap on reception was there when we arrived at 2035 again for breakfast and late that same day. He was helpful and polite.

Required a lot of up and down climbing to get around
Ignore the bad reviews. This is the second year running I’ve came here with my children. The hotel is clean and the staff are really polite and helpful it’s cheaper than the other hotels in the area as it’s being refurbished the rooms are decent and lovely views if you get a sea room.
The place was terrible we had to wait for a room. The life was out of order the TV was not working we left early shocking hotel would not recommend to anyone.
We booked this for just a night away, we saw only 1 staff member (lady on reception) very helpful but other then that we saw no-one, the room we had was clean but very dated, toilet didnt flush properly, the lino on the floor wasnt fitted properly and had bubbles-persumable from an old leak, beckfast was free but the dining area put us off so decided against it, its a shame because it could be a lovely hotel if it had monry invested to make it more upto date. We visut torquay every few months but we wont be visiting this hotel again.

He couldn't find any record of my booking, even after showing booking confirmation and reference. The place had a musty smell and a unclean feel to it.
It looks as if there has been no attempts of upkeep at the property for years.
I did not stay and found somewhere else to stay
For the price we paid I was only expecting very basic accommodation - I think a comfortable bed and a warm shower are a minimum expectation whatever the price and on that basis it just about delivers.
However, there was a very uncomfortable feeling throughout the whole stay, not helped by other residents coming and going noisily at all hours of the day and night, the shady looking characters hanging around nearby and the barely disguised drug deals we witnessed in the vicinity involving those residents.
I don’t believe the hotel or staff had any involvement, but they may want to consider what sort of clientele they want to attract.
