The Grandstand

Not recommended here for family.

For a hotel that promotes itself as five-star, this property was quite disappointing. Unfortunately, the only thing that really felt five-star was the lobby. The hotel is looking very tired, particularly the guest rooms, which are well overdue for an upgrade. We booked our stay back in January for an October visit, specifically requesting king beds. However, when we arrived to check in at around 4pm, we were told that only twin rooms were available. It was only after we persisted that they somehow managed to find rooms with king beds. Not a great first impression! We were also surprised to discover that the rooms had no minibar whatsoever. No beverages, no snacks, absolutely nothing. Apparently, this is only available to guests with a certain membership status, which I find quite extraordinary for a supposedly five-star hotel. The bathtub was another strange design choice. It was so long that unless you're over six feet tall, it's impossible to lie back and enjoy a bath. On the positive side, the pool itself was lovely, but again, the facilities didn't live up to five-star expectations. The sun loungers and chairs were uncomfortable, and there simply weren't enough of them for the number of guests. I did order room service during our stay, and the food was good, so credit where it's due. The real standout, however, was the location. Absolutely brilliant! Directly opposite a fantastic shopping centre and within easy walking distance of CHIJMES and
