Meroe is the location of more than 200 pyramids, approximately 200 km north of Khartoum. Once upon a time it was the capital of the Kush kingdom, once a powerful empire controlled by the Nubians. Very few travellers make it to (northern) Sudan but those who do are rewarded with ancient archaeological sites that you will likely have just to yourselves.
