Itaewon-dong Travel Guide

Seoul
Itaewon-dong
Alternative cafés and underground nightclubs complement the bowling alleys and high-end shopping malls of this spicy and exciting part of town.

Itaewon is an entertainment hub and neighborhood with an international focus for those who are missing the comforts of home. Here, you’ll find both traditional Korean relics and Western imports, from hamburger restaurants to bohemian bars serving craft beers, as well as rather salacious establishments. Rejoice in the variety of food and drink in the lively heart of Seoul.

In the afternoon, bring your family to the museums in the center of this quarter. One special kid-focused highlight is the Children’s Museum of the National Museum of Korea. Let your children touch and interact with the games and colorful models. Tailored to more sophisticated tastes are the modern Korean artworks adorning the walls of the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, which is set in a stylish and modern building.

For a change of scenery, hike up the hilly paths of Namsan Park and study the exotic plants in the Namsan Botanical Garden. You can also ride a cable car up the mountain peak and appreciate the stunning views on the way. On a rainy afternoon, roll a strike in the Namyeong Bowling Center or browse the shops in the Shilla I’Park Duty Free shop.

Enjoy the multicultural ambiance and get a sense of traditional Seoul at the Antique Furniture Street. Stroll along the shop-lined streets in the district’s center and choose from a great range of cuisines for lunch. Stay into the evening and delve into the darkest parts of Seoul, with a trip to one of the underground clubs with somewhat scandalous themes.

Find the neighborhood in the southern part of central Seoul. Ride a bus to the Itaewon-dong Station in the heart of the area. While here, visit some of the surrounding quarters, such as the city center, the Yeongdeungpo-gu banking neighborhood and the Dongjak-Dong area.

Itaewon is one of Seoul’s most tantalizing and global hubs.
