The Bell Hotel Thetford by Greene King Inns

8/10 Good

"Pleasant overnight stay. The room was fine, window was open on arrival and I couldn't get it shut, but given the excessive heat we're having at the moment I was happy to leave it open. On-site car park was full, but there is a free car park just up the road so that saved me a few quid. Decent food and a free cooked breakfast was included. Nice property, would stay there again."

Dragonfly Hotel Bury St Edmunds

"Location was good, right off the highway. Lots of free parking. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was very good. We didnt have the breakfast. Shower was nice had a bathtub. Beds were ok pillows were hard and not very comfortable. Would stay again."

"On arrival at 2:45 for 3pm check in we were told by the girl it was £15 for an early check in, at £1 a minute we said no thank you we will sit in the car. We said there was coffee pods in the room but no Coffee machine, she said oh I don’t know, so that was the end of that. Next morning with another guest we were trying to get into the pub area, only to find both doors were locked. The same girl as yesterday eventually opened up and said you should use other door, when we said we did she said Oh it could be faulty then. No apology ! Breakfast was different, posh menu but nothing standard, if you have kids forget it. We asked if there were any cereals ie cornflakes, weetabix etc ? No we’ve run out we were busy yesterday ! Any yoghurt or preserves, jam or marmalade, No we’ve run out ! Ok do you have porridge ? Can you ask please, then we heard the cheff shout in the back area porridge is not on the menu. We asked was there any toast, No just bread and butter ! When the breakfast arrived it had the porridge in the middle of the plate with the cooked items around it, that was a first. I asked for sugar as honey was a no no and she brought sugar lumps from off the bar. At that point we gave up. Food was nice, front of house attitude was terrible, you didn’t feel a guest, you were just another burden. No good morning or goodbye. Shame it could have been a good stay but obviously someone has no idea about hospitality or to create an environment you would wish to return to."

"Excellent welcome from Concierge taking our car, great guy. Good reception staff. Arrived back in evening for a drink after dinner, bar staff fairly dismissive that I was an inconvenience from one young lady especially.took a while to get served probably around 15 minutes after being told to go sit in the lounge. Still I won’t let one rude member spoil an enjoyable stay. On departure again the concierge was very helpful and friendly."

"This is a fabulous place to stay in Bury St Edmunds - easy to get to the town centre and the station. A very warm welcome, very comfortable, clean and well-equipped room. The bar areas and outside seating are excellent. The menu is inventive and the food very good, as is the array of wines and beers. The breakfast was way beyond expectation - I thought it was just going to be a continental breakfast as described in my booking, but it was way better than that. I really can’t fault this place - I certainly hope to be back there soon."
