Worst Experience Ever
It's 1:02 in the morning and still the pub is full of drunk, loud people singing at the top of their lungs. Management must be encouraging it since no one has told them to go home. When you have guest rooms, you should practice respect for your guests who are trying to sleep!! Never again will we come here.

Bathroom recently refurbished & the shower was great. Staff appeared to be distracted by boiler replacement during check-in & no info given about keys, breakfast or wifi.

For the price this was an excellently appointed room and very comfortable. Very well situated at the east end of Marlborough high street. Parking is at one of the long stay car parks approx 200m away. The only downside to the central location is that this is a pub and on a Saturday night it can get noisy admittedly mostly from a different establishment. But given the central location I was expecting this so fine. Full breakfasts are available for about £7 in the on premises cafe which on Sunday morning was probably the only cafe open.

Booked this hotel for an overnight stay in the week and was pleasantly surprised by the very accommodating staff and how lovely the room was. My one criticism would be that they should update their photos as the rooms are actually much nicer! Had a cosy feel and all the amenities you’d expect. Would definitely stay here again.

Freezing room and disinterested owner
Awful experience. The premium room we booked was freezing when we turned up and uninhabitable. The room had very large sash windows which had many gaps so the cold air was coming in. The tiny radiator was off. The bathroom had no heating at all. After 4 hours with the heating on it was still too cold to stay in. The landlord told us heating is expensive and we needed to go to a charity shop and buy jumpers. He was serious. It's a small village and many people told us the landlord is notoriously tight and will not put the heating on nor fix the windows. We tried to find another place to stay but a wedding across the road meant the few hotels/pubs locally were all full. Ironically, the bar has an open fire and was warm and welcoming. It could be a nice place to stay if the owner cared for customers but i would avoid at all costs

This pub is the last to close in town, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on your constitution. Room was fine. Shower/toilet was an odd cupboard built into the wall, and was a little gross.

The Bear was clean with everything you need. Nice shower. Only problem is traffic noise which is obviously beyond their control.

Give the Bear a Hug
Authentic Period Pub with Clean and Comfortable Rooms. No food at present, but there are multiple dining choices for evening meals in the nearby high street and coffee shops in the morning.

The room and bathroom was spacious and very comfortable and peaceful; the staff were friendly and attentive. Old fashioned and atmospheric. Excellent value for money and would definitely stay again. The Polly Tearooms nearby is a lovely place for breakfast.

Great Stay!
We loved our cosy little room, very comfortable and clean. Very generous with clean towels and coffee, tea, biscuits and water. The live music for the Halloween party was excellent a great bonus. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely stay again. 😊

Overall disappointing
Positives: Staff Friendly, Room very clean, Towells and Linen very clean. Negatives: Very Noisy, I know the rooms are above a pub, however around midnight you expect things to start to quieten down? At 02:30 it was like a load of football hooligans were still in the pub, plus you could hear the people in the other rooms like they were in your room with you, Room and decor very tired and need of updating!

Conveniently located, with 2 hr free parking slots nearby that work till 10 am. Large, well equipped room (no 1), but close to street, so some road noise. Above busy pub with courtyard garden and two bars. Sky and BT Sport's TV in bars.

Basic, No Frills and Comfortable.
Really nice room but I never managed to find a way of getting the shower to produce hot water - not a massive problem in a summer heatwave! Quite noisy outside but it's right in the middle of town so that was expected. I was a bit frustrated by the lack of parking but was out most of the time so it was less of a problem than it might have been. Overall it provided what I wanted - a clean, comfortable place to stay, in a central location at a very reasonable price. Would definitely stay there again.

Good but could have been great
Its a shame the large room had no en suite & you had to walk down a flight of stairs to use the loo/shower. I ended up swapping with my aunty who has bad legs, so not all rooms were like this. Check in was fine and rooms were decent & clean.. with plenty of biscuits, tea, coffee, mints and bottled water (always a winner for me). But most importantly the bed was very comfortable and I had a great nights sleep. Overall good, an en suite and it would have been great!

Short stay
I was very happy with a room, it was comfortable enough for my short stay and I had everything I needed, including the ear plugs. Evening was quite noisy, partly perhaps as there were many Christmas parties going on. However it didn't bother me too much and I had a good nigh sleep - without ear plugs. In the morning I enjoyed traditional Sunday Breakfast in downstairs restaurant. Cosy and comfortable. Friendly staff.

Lively pub with great rock band on Sat night. Room 2 was a good size quiet and comfortable. The ‘en-suite’ however was a shock, probably the smallest we have ever encountered with sink, shower and loo squeezed into a space just a few feet square. Breakfast was generous but alas the bacon and sausage of low quality taste. Not great value.

We went to marlborough to meet with friends and visit Rick Stein's restaurant so we booked the bear not to worry about driving.......great evening /night and the bear was the perfect place to stay great people who gave us a great welcome breakfast next morning was lovely and fresh will definitely book here again

Parking is a bit of a lottery in Marlborough, but otherwise The Bear was functional and what was expected for £55 B&B. Staff were polite and helpful, room was okay considering the price. Earplugs were supplied, I am guessing on account of the noise of the kitchens below (mainly refrigerator noises), but this didn't bother me at all. No loo on the top floor was a slight negative.
