Excellent place to stay at Retiro in Madrid This petit palace Alfonso XII has great location in front of beautiful Retiro park and walking distance from Alcala's Gate, Prado and Reina Sofia Museums and close to Atocha train station. A few blocks from Cibeles fountain where I had the chance to be part of the Real Madrid Celebration. I highly recommend the buffet option since the food selection was excellent.

Staff was very nice and friendly. But the hotel did not feel very nice and clean. The room did not look like the pictures. It seemed worn and dirty. The view from our room was not good. We recently stayed at many 3 star hotels that were much nicer than this. Not worth the cost.

This a great property located across from Retiro Park where we did our morning walks. It's close enough to the old city that you can walk but also far enough away so it's quiet. The breakfast buffet was very good and our park view room was great. Very helpful staff.

It was not what we expected and it is always a disappointment. It is old hotel. Not a 5 stars. Only positive is a location. Negatives: bed and doors are ckreaping.Baclony had like 40 years metall closing accesories.It is not a palace.

They advertised air conditioning and rooms DO NOT have air conditioning. Rooms in the second through all upper floors were super hot and since they have a window to a major street that is very noise, sleeping was impossible.

Very nice older hotel in a great location, right across the street from the Park of Madrid. You pay a little extra for the breakfast, which was good. They had non-dairy and gluten free options. They fry eggs upon request, otherwise you just get eggs sitting in a hot pot. One of the big minuses for us was that the hotel advertised as having Air Conditioning. Of course we assumed that meant room controlled air conditioning. The first night we could not figure out the air conditioning and the room got really hot, so we opened the windows which allowed all the street noise to come in. When we asked the front desk about the air conditioning they explained that they have no control over the AC since it is set to turn on only when the outdoor temperature reaches a specified level. We complained for a few days straight and just kept getting the standard run around. We weren't the only ones complaining, our friends and many other hotel guests stated they were experiencing the same issues with AC and the Staff's respond. After about 3 - 4 days, the AC finally came on. If it wasn't for the AC situation, I would have given the hotel 4 stars.

The hotel is very dingy! Old and not kept up at all - from the lobby and hallways to the room. No air-conditioning in May (the reason given by staff was bc it's still cold outside)?? Wow, it's May! Opening windows was not a choice because the loud music and horrific dirty court-yard ie. outside space surrounded by building walls. Everything about the bathroom was disgusting...an old and dirty hairdryer was permanently plugged in (I guess so it couldn't be stolen?). I could go on and on...Anyway, I don't understand who is rating this hotel as an excellent one? This is a 1 star hotel!
