"The Royal Marine is an historic building, full of history, with an outstanding sea view, transformed internally with the installation of en suite bathrooms etc to suit the modern traveller."
"Overall this place was great! The outer cottage rooms were out dated but main building rooms were lovely. The food was excellent and the guy serving us was very nice!"
"We had a lovely night's stay at the Sugar Boat in their family room. The room was beautiful and the breakfast was fabulous! We'd definitely recommend to anyone, and will return next time we're in Helensburgh - thank you! "
"The place was great… totally felt like I was in an Agatha Christie novel… great vegan options too… my room was cute and clean… only complaint was the obvious damage of something previous on the ceiling so it felt a little less special. "
"Pier view is a lovely little house with everything that you will need in a home from home. The views from the property are amazing and Mesmerising. There is plenty to see and do in the area too with walks and botanical gardens close by and not to far away from supermarkets and shops if needed. Would highly recommend if you
just want to get away from it all and relax."

"Very clean room, quiet. Helpful staff. Very adequate continental breakfast. Helensburgh has places worth visiting notably Hill House and the midget submarine museum."
"Fantastic hotel which has clearly had a lot of work done in recent times. I was greeted warmly by Ricky and checked in to Room 2, which was massive - and simply perfect for my (5 stone) greyhound, as he had space to move.
The Royal Marine is one of 2 dog friendly hotels in the area, and as you can see, His Lordship was made ever so welcome and he slept like a log, as did I! I brought his own bed, however my bed was super comfy and cosy. There was a tv, a (clean!) kettle with tea & coffee and large en-suite.
The building itself is steeped in history and is architecturally stunning. For the same price you could stay in one of the bland, characterless, pokey guesthouses nearer town.... but why would you? From what I could tell, every room looked different, which was a nice touch.
The terrace is a great place to sit and watch the Clyde roll by, and there was ample parking too. The log fire in the bar was both cosy and aesthetically pleasing, and the whole place was super clean.
Sadly I was staying due to holding my husbands funeral in Dunoon, but the hotel being bright and cheerful really helped me alot. All the staff were fun and incredibly friendly (it is rare for housekeeping to say good morning these days, but the ladies here were wonderful). Also, a big thumbs-up to Fiona on the bar for making my stay a thoroughly enjoyable one; it really is the staff who make a hotel feel like home.
As Arnie would say, Ill be back! Thank you xxx"
"Staff were very friendly and efficient. Room was well equiped with tea, coffee, biscuits etc. At midnight we couldn’t get to sleep in room 5 as a dog was constantly barking in the kennels at the Police office outside our room. Colin at reception immediately moved my wife and I to the opposite side of the hotel and all was well. Hotel was clean, warm and tidy and we enjoyed the continental breakfast in the morning which there was plenty to choose from. I would certainly recommend it as it is very central and only 100 meters from the front promenade and very near to where the cruise liners are docked."
"Great stay. Booked last minute as we were traveling through. Comfortable bed and great hot shower. Breakfast was delicious, with very large portions. "
