Llandygwydd Travel Guide

Tourist Guide

Teifi Valley near Llandygwydd. Southward view, from A484 probably about ½-mile out of Llandygwydd. [Help needed: the house is identical with the 'Tanbanc Villa' featured in SN2442 : Tanbanc Villa, Llandygwydd, but I can't fit it into this view!]
Foundations of the church of St. Tygwydd, Llandygwydd, Ceredigion, Wales. Clearly the church built in 1857 stood here. The font is in the position marked on this ground plan. Indeed the boot scrapers are still in position by the steps up to the porch. But the church has completely disappeared. The only clue I have so far found is its mention in this list of listed buildings demolished in 1999. A smaller building nearby is now used as the church.
Manordeifi old church, from the East This picturesque mediaeval church is in the care of The Friends of Friendless Churches (although its charm is such that it must attract many friends.) As a result of being replaced by a new church on higher ground in the late C19 the old church avoided Victorian restoration and, despite abandonment and near ruination during the first half of the C20, it has been preserved in its original simple style.
Manordeifi old church, bard's gave and old stable Looking west from the south side of the church the Celtic cross within the railed enclosure, left, marks the grave of John Blackwell (1797-1840) who took the bardic name Alun. Straight ahead, just outside the gate, is a building that once provided stabling for horses belonging to members of the congregation who rode or drove to church. It has been converted into a private house.
Grave of John Colby One of several railed-off grave sites at Manordeifi: just as local gentry enjoyed their private box pews in church so their preference for separation from the commoners persisted after death. Here lies John Colby of Ffynone (1816-1874) with some very ornate wrought iron work surmounting his enclosure.

Weekend bus trip
A very different experience, a shame it was November so the weather wasn't great, but still a great experience. Would definately recommend flip flops for the bus stop showers, as that floor was a tad painful. And a shame the shower with a view had suffered in the last freeze, would be great in summer. ...
