Leeds Town Hall

Leeds Town Hall showing heritage architecture and an administrative building
Check out live music performances, film screenings and exciting festivals hosted by this landmark building and one of the largest town halls in the United Kingdom.

Leeds Town Hall is a striking Classical-Baroque-style building in the heart of the city. As well as being a historical council office, it is also home to the city’s premier concert venue, Victoria Hall. Find out what’s on during your visit to Leeds Town Hall and experience music concerts, special events and formal civic functions within the richly decorated halls.

You’re sure to pass by Leeds Town Hall during your walking tour of the city’s historic centre. Check out the hall’s breathtaking Victorian architecture, which dates back to 1858. Designed by Hull architect Cuthbert Broderick, Leeds Town Hall features an ornate Baroque clock tower and tall colonnade. An elaborate carved-stone palisade skirts the building’s roof and regal stone lions look out from the hall’s façade. Appreciate the hall’s architectural grandeur from the street before climbing the stone steps and entering the building.

The Leeds Town Hall hosts a broad programme of events. You might see an orchestra, opera performances and organ recitals. Art exhibitions and special lectures are also regularly held here. If nothing appeals to you, however, you can still explore the hall with a guided tour. Uncover the hall’s fascinating history and discover the former Courtroom, stand at the prisoner’s docks and check out the old prisoner’s cells. You can also climb the 203 steps up the central clock tower and see the heritage clock, as well as magnificent views across Leeds’ historic downtown. Tours are available with prior booking on Mondays and Saturdays for a small fee.

If you are visiting the hall for an event or concert, you can stop by the bar and café for refreshments prior to the show. Interval drinks and ice creams are also available here.

Leeds Town Hall is located in central Leeds. It is fronted by Victoria Square. You can reach the hall within a 10-minute walk from Leeds Railway Station. Ticketing prices differ between events. Metered street parking and parking lots are available in the adjacent streets. Be sure to check out the hall’s neighboring Leeds City Art Gallery and the Leeds Central Library for other examples of exquisite Victorian architecture.
