Fragrant fields of blooms await you at this stunning flower farm outside the Brazilian mountain resort of Gramado in southern Brazil.
Spend a memorable afternoon at Le Jardin Parque de Lavanda and enjoy its beautifully gardens, greenhouses and manicured lawns. Gently rub your fingers on the light purple blossoms and hold them to your nose to breathe in the distinctive scent of lavender.
Walk the paths of the 8.5-acre (3.5-hectare) property, taking a break on one of the many benches to contemplate the spectacular views of the park and property below. Watch bees busily pollinating the blossoms in the bright sunshine.
Visit the on-site greenhouses to see where the plants are cultivated and learn about the different species of lavender and other plants that are cultivated before being transplanted in the grounds or sold in the on-site nursery.
Take a break at the garden’s café to enjoy tea, coffee or hot chocolate on the deck while you appreciate the panorama of the surrounding forest and mountains. A wood fire is lit here in the winter months so you can warm up in this cozy space before venturing out into the cold mountain air.
Try the café’s famous apple strudel made with a traditional recipe that includes a French-style filling and handmade Austrian pastry. This specialty dish is served warm with vanilla ice cream and is the perfect treat after building an appetite from walking the grounds.
Finish your visit at the on-site shop. Here you can purchase some of the garden’s beautiful lavender-based products, such as essential oils, housewares and cosmetics that make great presents for family and friends or a lovely reminder of your trip.
The park is located about 3 miles (5 kilometers) outside of Gramado and can be reached by taxi directly from your hotel or a public bus from the town center. Inquire at Gramado’s tourist information office for the garden’s opening times and transportation options.
Entrance to Le Jardin Parque de Lavanda is free. Visit from October to December to see the lavender fields in spectacular full bloom.
