Langesund is in Telemark County, right out towards the Oslo fjord and Skagerrak. Around 5,500 people live on this beautiful peninsula, but during the summer months, tourists flock to the area. Langesund is a town with a long maritime tradition, and it was one of the most important shipping towns in Norway. It is also one of Norway’s sunniest places, so if you are hoping for a few days of sunshine, you are likely to find them here.
Take a trip to Tangen Fort to see the remains of the fort that used to be here. The stunning scenery and views across the fjord are an added bonus. Or visit Langøytangen lighthouse, which is now automated, and stay in a self-catering cottage. There might even be a concert on in the old Wrightgaarden during your stay. At Langøya farm, you can learn more about the gathering and processing of food resources from nature.
Your holiday to Langesund may coincide with one of the many festivals held here. As it can get very busy here during such events, it is worth booking accommodation ahead in plenty of time. Langesund also offers many beaches, but if you happen to be unlucky with the weather, take a trip to Langesund Bad swimming pool instead.
Oslo Torp Airport is approximately 35 miles away by car and offers international and domestic flights. Parking in the town centre is difficult in summer, but public transport connections are excellent. It is also possible to get here without a car.
