Kandy District Travel Guide

Central Province

The Royal Botanical Gardens were a great place to visit large spaces for a picnic and beautiful trees and shrubs. The avenues of palm trees are spectacular and the fernery such a lovely, shady place to escape the heat.

Our favourite part by far are the trees the fruit bats call home; listen, and look up – you'll ear them chattering, and see them hanging upside down with their furry bodies turned to the sun, every so often you'll see one or two stretch their wings, or even fly from one roost to another. These bats, unlike most bats, fly by sight not radar – something I didn't know until I visited this most beautiful park.

Another exquisite building in Sri Lanka - this one in Kandy. Just in the middle of everyday shops.
Tea plantation in Kandy, Sri Lanka - beautiful and cool on the mountains to visit the tea plantations #landscape #SriLanka #nature #hiking
A photo taken while I was traveling to Badulla in the upcountry railway line. This is the most scenic railway line in Sri Lanka and it's highly recommended. You will find this one in a life lite experience. It is totally 8 hour ride if my memory is good.
