Jerez de la Frontera Travel Guide

Tourist Guide
Jerez Cathedral
Master of flamenco, cradle of horses, vineyard of the top wines in Andalusia and centre of pilgrimage for motorsports fans. Jerez will make you tremble with excitement.

On holidays in Jerez de la Frontera, discover the union between the lordly aristocratic palaces and the popular flavour of Andalusian hamlets. The city holds an incredible architectural heritage, witness of the passing of the Phoenician, Arab and Christian cultures.

The city’s Muslim past has left its mark on the walls and the Alcázar, whose walled complex holds a mosque, the Arab baths and the Olive garden. In the centre of the old quarter, its main Christian symbol, the cathedral, is an example of this union. It is built on top of a mosque and offers Baroque and Neoclassical elements, while its tower holds Mudéjar influences.

In the lively San Miguel district, you’ll find palace homes that are interspersed with bar terraces and shops. A short distance away you’ll find the Santiago district with its flamenco tradition. Here you’ll find the Andalusian Flamenco Centre, the largest documentation centre on the art of flamenco for researchers, students and fans.

Visit Jerez’s most important wineries, such as Sandeman, Pedro Domecq or Tio Pepe, with our cheap trips to Jerez. Discover traditional and modern methods for creating sherry wines and Jerez brandies. The most typical dishes of the local cuisine are prepared using these liquids to enrich its meat and fish dishes, torrijas and Christmas pestiño pastries.

Also linked with Jerez’s history is the breeding of Andalusian horses, which are known as Cartujanos after the Cartuja de Santa María de la Defensión, the province’s most important religious monument. With our package holidays in Jerez, enjoy the Horse Fair, declared a festival of International Tourist Interest. At the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, witness a demonstration of doma dressage packed with emotion and skill.

Fasten your seat belt and speed on to the Circuito de Jerez, the home of international Formula 1 and motoGP races.

With our holidays in Jerez, you’ll be overwhelmed by the charm and magnetism of this noble city, the scene of historical movements in Spain.

Went during the Flamenco Festival. Jerez is historic, atmospheric and beautiful. A good city to explore on foot. Plenty of good bars and restaurants. Convenient too for a trip to Cadiz or a day out in Gibraltar.
