WARNING: tourist trap? We had spent 3 weeks in Vietnam prior to booking this so we had reasonable expectations to the quality of the hotel.
At the “impressive boutique hotel,” The lobby has been converted into a nail parlour and foot spa There’s was an overwhelming stench of harsh chemicals, with subtle undertones of acrid standing water, resulting in a truely unbearable stench throughout the room. The bedroom had an extractor fan installed which gives an indication to how bad it is. The ceiling was only partially covered in mould, so that’s one positive aspect?
It looked like there was a family of rats happily living right outside our window so at least someone was enjoying themselves.
The air conditioner partially worked, but in all honesty we didn’t stay in the room long enough to find out. We were hardly expecting luxury accommodation and we selected hotels based on location. The problem here is that this hotel was a health risk. After 30 minutes in the room I was constantly coughing and partner developed a headache.
We went back to reception to express our concerns. The receptionist was very apologetic and actually quite polite. He offered to move us to another ‘cleaner hotel’ for an extra 20%. The hotel felt like a genuine health risk and shouldn’t be operating in its current capacity. Offering guest to stay at another hotel for extra money was concerning and gave the impression that this hotel is some kind of tourist trap. We left immediately afterwards
