"Lovely clean and comfortable room. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff member. Well equipped with plenty of power points and extras for a pleasant stay. Would happily book again. "
"Beautiful building and property. Spacious rooms with decent wifi, fridge, fan and comfortable chairs and bed. Good restaurant in the building too. Enjoyed the critters in the yard: cats, peacocks, Guinea hens, chickens, geese, and scrunchy faced pigs. Would have loved to have stayed longer. "
"The whole experience was brilliant, from the welcome we got and great local tips, to the accommodation and breakfast. It was such a peaceful place to stay and we would highly recommend it. In particular, the staff were friendly and super helpful."
"Room a bit tired but doesn't detract from the enoyment of the stay. Room and bathroom spacious and the bed was comfortable, perfect for after hiking up Scafell Pike. Good, hearty food and friendly staff. Perfect for what we needed."
"All over it was a good property to stay with my family. Living room is bit packed with dining table and chairs. There wasn't any tea bags/coffee or suger, luckily there is a shop 1 min walk managed to buy some. First time we used the cooker spider came out from cooker hood. Wasn't the best experience but it was funny."

10/10 Excellent
"I recently stayed at this hotel in the Lake District with my family for five nights. Our main goal was to climb Scafell Pike, and this hotel stood out as the nearest option within my price range. Initially, I didn’t have very high expectations (despite the good reviews), but those quickly changed once we arrived.
The location was peaceful and quiet, the car park was large and well-planned, and the room exceeded my expectations—it was far more spacious than any hotel room I’ve stayed in before. The staff were warm, humble, and genuinely welcoming, which added to the experience.
Breakfast was included in the price and was a real highlight. Instead of a standard buffet, you order from a menu (available online), and the food is freshly prepared for you. There were plenty of options, including vegetarian and vegan choices, which I thought was excellent.
The bathroom was also very spacious and clean. The only small drawbacks were that the sofa bed was only a single (despite there being enough room for a double), and the showerhead over the bathtub was fixed.
The location was very convenient—just a 25-minute drive to Scafell Pike and about 40 minutes to the west coast, where towns like Whitehaven and Workington offer plenty of restaurants (including McDonald’s, KFC, and Domino’s for budget options), as well as major supermarkets like Morrisons, ASDA, and Tesco.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would happily return. Highly recommended."

"Absolutely wonderful stay! The B&B was charming, spotless, and incredibly comfortable, but what truly stood out was the breakfast — hands down one of the best we have ever had. Every morning was a treat! The hosts were warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Highly recommend for both couples or families."
"Nice place to stay. Coffee shop not far away and walkable - very nice. Need a car as narrow lanes to get to and no footpaths. Service at breakfast on the 1st morning was slow but that was due to the young girl serving. Not there when we arrived and waited 10 minutes before she appeared. Left dirty dishes on tables when she could have easily removed when bringing other dishes etc...She was friendly enough. 2nd morning, totally different service. Lady on duty was attentive and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. Food is good, book a table as it is busy. Rooms were clean and spacious but feel they missed a trick with our room. Small corridor to the bathroom but no hooks to put coats on etc.. Would definitely stay again... "
"He been to the BGL twice in the last month and have enjoyed both stays. First hotel I’ve been to that has no reception or staff in general, with keys and information left on a table on the way in. No matter though, I’m there to sleep and shower and that’s about it!
It’s situated right on the beach which gives you the most incredible view out of the window and it’s close to local pubs and a few other conveniences. More importantly, it’s in an amazing place to head in to Wasdale - other than Gosforth, or staying in Wasdale itself (good luck!) it’s the best place for access, just 25 minutes away mostly along the shore of Wast Water.
Would happily stay here again. "
