The Moorland Hotel, Haytor, Devon
10/10 Excellent
"We really enjoyed our 2 night stay here. The hotel is comfortable and welcoming and sits right on the edge of the moor. Good road access to all areas. Bed, shower were great, meals were tasty (nice breakfast selection) and the staff were always very friendly and helpful. There are 2 areas for eating - the large bar and conservatory; the menus differ slightly in each. Nice terrace with parasols for al fresco dining. The lounge area was really pleasant to sit in after an evening meal - one night a live pianist was playing ( hits from last 50 years) and he was very good. A selection of board/card games were available if required. Would definitely stay again."

"I thought the rooms were amazing for the price, the AC was a god send and the pressure in the shower was great. I was extremely happy with the rooms and would gladly visit again. The course was amazing, really well kept and the staff were really polite and friendly. The only gripe that we had is that the time waiting to order and for the food to come wasnโt very good. We ate at Trethorne all three nights and it was the same every night. We even had to approach the bar to order our food on the second night. Larger tables were asked if their food was ok 2 or 3 times but we barely got a look from the waiter/waitresses."

"Excellent place to stay with superb grounds and sn amazing tree house which you can actually stay in. The food was excellent although the choices on the the dinner menu were somewhat limited."

"Welcoming hotel with helpful staff. Lovely old country house, very comfortable bed in delightful upper room with incredible views. Some tired and old decor in breakfast room but other areas well maintained and clean. Disappointed not to have had a shower in the bathroom, only a bath and had to ask for more shower gel and soap as it was not replaced."

"Great place on the Cornwall/Devon border, equidistant from the stuff you can do in the Southwest. The food they serve is great, as is the staff I interacted with. An EV charger in the same parking area is very helpful, as well. I was surprised that my single room didn't have a TV. The water pressure and heat when trying to shower were never consistent (but usually okay). While not a comment about this hotel, know that this area doesn't have much for stuff to do. If you're on vacation here, the hotel is where you go to call it a night and relax. Knowing all this, I would definitely keep this place in mind the next time I do a Southwest holiday."

"Our stay at The Walkhampton Inn was pleasant. The room was spacious and tidy. Clean bedding and comfy bed. The bathroom door needs to have the door knob fixed so it closes properly and the bedroom window could benefit from a sheer netting / veil curtain just as there is a property opposite the bedroom window which you can see right intoโฆ which means they can see you too!! Helpful manual to explain the TV. Breakfast was good, would be nice to have a background noise of a radio as at times the silence was awkward. Other than that, really lovely stay and would stay again โบ๏ธ."
