Excellent refurb. Not stayed for many years but a vast difference from the Golf Inn days. Only point might be its a bit pricey in the Stables restaurant.. Also need stronger coffee in the mornings - stick an extra spoon in the pot please!
Everything was perfect! Nothing was spared. We were greeted warmly, the extra little touches made this one of the best stays on our holiday! Can’t wait to come back!

This establishment has created an interesting layout with care and attention to detail - and serves exquisite food and is 5 star most of the way......except that it allows dogs on the premises - even to stay in the bedrooms with their owners!!
It was dry and sunny during our stay but even then the smell of dogs was pervasive, especially when entering the cottage where our room was located.
The paths between the rooms and the main building had dog poo left by the guests’ dog(s) on at least two occasions - forcing us to gingerly navigate around various faeces.
The outdoor (but small and fully enclosed) BBQ area can at busy times be full of dogs mostly off the leash and rooting around as dogs do. Dogs seem to be permitted in every public room (as well as bedrooms).
My wife and I would never have darkened the door of this establishment had we known that dogs were allowed such free rein - dogs have their place but it is not in areas where people sleep or eat.
It’s unhygienic no matter how good the cleaning regime may be.
Is it even legal to allow dogs into eating areas and bedrooms in a hotel?
We like dogs but they need to be in their place and a relatively upmarket hotel/restauarant is not it.
Great chilled weekend with great food and service, sunday roast was amazing and really enjoyed the breakfasts. A nice extra was hot chocolate left outside room at night with a cookie
I liked the little extra touches: The hot chocolate and biscuits left at our door on return to our room in the evening, the water and flapjacks when we checked out. The food was expensive but tasty. The breakfast was fantastic...best we've ever had at a hotel. Although not vegetarian, loved all the vegetarian options.
Incredible stay. Lovely stay in the paddock room with our own little garden for the dog. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were all so friendly. Quick walk to the beach via the green and playground - perfect location for a family with little ones and little legs.
Had the most amazing stay in the Ridge Suite. The staff could not be more helpful, especually the reception lady! Room was beautiful as was the establishment. Had delightful aperitifs in the beer garden prior to dinner in the Stables restaurant which was also amazing! 😋
Amazing - we booked the suite as a birthday treat and it was just perfect. Super clean and some little extra details that were very appreciated. Friendly staff in all areas of the hotel and an out of this world meal topped off a perfect getaway.
Superb friendly staff, fantastic service, delicious food and overall would highly recommend the Bonnie Badger, the only not so great part was the room which was pretty small and felt basic- apart from the very comfortable bed.
I'd read this hotel goes above and beyond so i was prepared to pay above what i normally would to have this attention to detail. I mentioned to reception what an awful drive i had through a snowstorm and couldn't wait for a nice coffee. Reception said they were happy to do this for me (the coffee never came). There were no snacks in the room (even just a small biscuit like ever other hotel would of been something). I was overcharged in the bar as they had mistakenly added a different tables drinks to my bar bill. When i questioned this i was faced with a little bit of push back from the waiter who seemed not to believe me. I was then told it was taken care of and not to worry only then to be faced with the same bar bill as an outstanding balance as i checked out. This led to ending my stay also with a bad taste in my mouth and the thought that i may see that bar bill given to me for a third time.
The parking situation. This is insecure and a good walk from the premises with luggage as the entrance through the garden is closed. Also the inflexibilty of room access was dissapointing. We arrived at 12.30 for afternoon tea and checked in at reception prior to this. This went smoothly and , as expected our room was not immediately available and our bags were stored. After tea we checked on the room situation and it still was not available. The receptionist kindly took my phone number and called us after 2.30 to say the room was available. I think since we were on the premises some effort could have been made to accomodate early access to our room. However, overall we enjoyed our break and our loft room the Sandy Loan was very comfortable and the staff throughout the hotel and restaurant were friendly and efficient.
This is a great place with real high quality rooms, food and service. You pay a premium for this as it is expensive but worth it for special occasions. They also went the extra mile for dogs, with wonderful dog beds and rooms in an extension out the back with a garden area for sitting outside and also convenient for quick toilet trips. Dogs welcome throughout the hotel.
Beautiful hotel. Great service. Shame the public spaces were devoid of alcohol as the garden room looked like a lovely space for having an aperitif. Dinner was fantastic and would thoroughly recommened a stay here.
Had a lovely few days at the Bonnie Badger. Gullane is such a classy place and the hotel is perfectly located in the centre of the village. Nice room, great food, especially the breakfast which sets you up perfectly for the day ahead.
The Bonnie Badger is Covid-19 secure. Very clean, staff all protected and very good measures in place for social distancing, temparature checks at check-in and sanitisation of tables.
Hotel is immaculate and bar and dining facilities excellent.
So many little extras that made it special.
Magazines in the room, coffee and scones on arrival, bottles of water for the journey home....
Breakfast was delicious and staff were very attentive.
