"As the name and geographical location suggest, the Moorland Hotel in Wotter sits high on a beautiful stretch of Dartmoor. The industry rating is 3⭐ which is probably fair and accurate. (Go somewhere else if luxury’s your thing). But whatever it may not have is handsomely offset by the hotel’s affordability; its natural and effortless charm; its truly stunning location; the warm welcome and the top notch cuisine. The Moorland is also host on Sunday nights to the famous Folk on the Moor Folk Club … which is why and where I was there to play. Our room was spacious and spotless affording views out to Plymouth Sound and as far as the Eddystone Lighthouse. Ample parking. And a great base for exploring Dartmoor. We loved the place and give special mention to the cheerful charm, cuisine and helpfulness of its Nepalese owners."

"Really friendly and helpful staff. Make sure you get in touch early if you want a particular breakfast time, as there is limited capacity. They do warn you about this in advance. Good choice of options for breakfast - I particularly enjoyed the eggs royale. Very handy having the car park opposite the hotel rather than having to park in the town car park at the top of the village. Clean and comfortable room. Shower wasn’t very strong but temperature fine. Very enjoyable three-night stay there, just out of peak season.."
