This was better than any hotel or air bnb I’ve ever stayed at. Dora’s attention to detail and hospitality is unmatched! The food was the best I’ve ever had, no joke! I will be staying here again :)
This was our first experience at such an intimate B&B. I can’t imagine a better experience than what Dora provided for us. We were greeted with bowls of amazing chicken soup and crusty bread.. so thoughtful as she knew just we needed after a long chilly drive. We had a great evening enjoying the beautiful B&B.
Breakfast the next morning was truly standing ovation worthy. We sat overlooking a beautiful snowy scene with some many different varieties of birds flying by to say Hi! Make sure you ask to try her homemade jam. We parted with a thoughtful gift and handwritten card.
Her hospitality and wide welcoming smile truly made our stay absolutely perfect!!
The Sanctuary on the Huron River has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. The hosts were awesome and they made sure you had everything you needed during your stay. And, let’s not forget the delicious home made gourmet breakfast that is served daily. We will return!!!
So, in honesty, I booked this not knowing it was a bed and breakfast… BUT it turned out to be wonderful. It is called “The Sanctuary” for good reason. Dora and Ed are wonder hosts who definitely went above and beyond for our meager overnight stay. The room was clean, the property was so peaceful. Helped my wife and I start out with a slow relaxing morning before making our way to downtown Detroit. Can’t recommend this enough to people who don’t mind a bed and breakfast. If/when we come back to this area, we will definitely be staying at “The Sanctuary”! Only regret is not having more time to soak in the serenity.
This place is a sanctuary in every sense of the word. The property is tranquil and incredibly beautiful with room for long walks. The variety of birds on the property is stunning, and you can watch them from the dining room window while enjoying a first class breakfast.
The host and hostess were beyond amazing. Dora is a fabulous chef, and they are a synergistic team wholly dedicated to making your stay perfect. I loved my stay there and will definitely return when I’m in that area again.
This is...a sanctuary!
The owners are there to pamper to your needs and even specific wants too. Dora bends over backwards to ensure a custom, personalized, comfortable experience. We celebrated a birthday here for a two day weekend getaway, knowing that 3 metroparks are very close.
You will be made to feel at home. The Sanctuary team of Dora and Ed were perfect hosts. On the Huron River on the edge of Flatrock, MI. Great for couples.
Sanctuary - A sanctuary is a place of refuge or safety, often a sacred or holy place where individuals can seek protection, solace, or peace. It can also refer to a place where animals or plants are protected and preserved.
Happy Easter and thank you! My soul is re-energized and prepared for another season! Very very special place. I will definitely return for more inspiration!
‘May the rhythm of your soul always be the sound of peace’
The name says it all… This is definitely a sanctuary. The large property is on the Huron River and has dozens of varieties of birds. The home is comfortable and welcoming, and mama Dora is a delight. You’re welcomed with snacks and breakfast was fantastic! Here you are welcomed like family. I would recommend the site to anyone who’s traveling in the area.
We chose The Sanctuary as a place that we wanted to renew our 10 year wedding vows. Everything was better than we could have hoped for. The grounds were beautiful, the weather was great, the B & B was wonderful and the owners were terrific as they participated in our ceremony. And the food...Oh MY. Thank you guys for an experience that we will never forget. We will see you again...
We hope to hike around the property on a future visit, but we loved the way the hosts opened their home to us like family and served us with elegance! The delicious snack in the evening and nutritious sustaining breakfast would be hard to beat anywhere! We didn't need lunch until mid afternoon at which time we enjoyed a gift of cakes sent with us on our way. Served alongside uplifting genuine conversation, these hosts care very well. Our bed was absolutely comfortable and we slept well. They also referred us to local coffee/tea gift shop that we enjoyed later in the day as well.
It was an beautiful house , with an awesome couple hosting you in a very well decorated place. Everything was perfect. I cannot even start talking about the breakfast!
The only problem, which I think it was just me, was that I didn’t feel as comfortable as I feel in a hotel. There was nothing at all about the hotel or the host, it was about myself not being used to the bed&breakfast setting.
